New Megadeth

yep 'real' solos and tom araya actually sings oh my!

Seasons is probably my favorite Slayer album overall, it doesnt have all my favorite songs, but it is consistently awesome and interesting start to finish, which you cant say about all their albums. everyone always screams RiB! and while Angel of Death and Raining Blood are definitely two of their best songs, there are a lot of songs in between them lacking interesting riffs and ideas, just speed/aggression.

Agreed completely. King's said in interviews that was the only record where the leads were purposely played in key.

New Megadeth seems pretty dull. Pity. I'd still go see em.

Sometimes I'll listen to Metallica, even now, and just zone out on what an awful, awful drummer Lars is.
Almost the same for me. I just think about how much MORE AWESOME those early Metallica albums would have been if they'd had a drummer that could keep up with James' right hand. Of course at the time I thought it was the greatest shit ever no matter what, but in hindsight, yeah... a real metal drummer would have made that band even better than they already were.

I struggle with the fact that this can even be considered music. The song writing sucks, the licks suck, the drums suck, the vocal harmonies are unlistenable and overall it's extremely taxing and difficult to listen to. It honestly almost hurts physically. I mean seriously, can any band nosedive further into the depths of musical horseshit than Metallica? What's next? A collaboration with William Shatner?

I honestly think that Metallica's problem is that they're surrounded by yes people. No one in the upper echelons of the music industry has the balls to stand up to big acts and say, "You know what, you have all this money and all this fame and all this time on your hands, yet you couldn't BUY a decent fucking riff to save your life, much less write one. If you wanna keep making records, stop playing this bullshit because St. Anger was fucking Stairway to Heaven in comparison."

I AM THE TABLE!!!!

And people fucking cheer.

Btw: For the first time a Megadeth record got more sales than a Metallica record. 13 sold more than twice as much as Lulu.

Ok, one or two weeks later: 13 is not thaaaaaat great, as I first thought. It got some great songs and some mediocre ones, all in all a good, but not a great record. I still would compare it to Youthanasia though.

And when Justice came out, Megadeth released Rust in Peace...!!! A record better than Justice, better than anything Metallica ever did, and ever will do. And btw: I really like Metallica, but Rust in Peace... is Rust in Peace... !

Yeah, the latest album is definitely not great at all. I had not listened to anything but the title track before starting this thread, and like I said, it sounded like it had a lot of potential. There are a few songs that I think are "good", but overall the album is as bland as everything between Cryptic and Endgame (which is a very good album with some awful lyrics). I agree too, Rust in Peace...is pretty hard to top. I sometimes wonder what album I like more though between it and MoP, but I think it mostly just depends on my mood. From a technical level, there's really no contest though.

So what you are saying in a nutshell then is: Metallica is to metal what George Lucas is to sci-fi.

I don't even consider Lulu to be Metallica. From what I understand the vocalist was in a famous band (yeah thats right old people, shake your canes at me i don't care) and so they wanted to just do something with him, but clearly there's a reason he hadn't been doing much as the album fucking BLOWS. I mean I expected bad after hearing the sample song, but I thought there would at least be some tracks better than the sample, yet that was the best one. it was the turd that smelled the least like rotting bacteria and food. I'm sure Dave is lolling at how awfully it's doing, but it really isn't Metallica and Death Magnetic actually had some decent tracks on it.

13 wasn't great either, though it was better than Lulu. I've said it before, but I fucking love Megadeth and think Dave Mustaine is a fucking riff machine, yet recently he's been dropping the ball to the max. Live his vocals are just dull (and obviously all the stuff on the CD is just studio magic to the max, I imagine they probably did like 1 song per day if that so that he could put all his vocal power for the day into like 1 minute), lyrics have been especially bad for a longgg time (and I actually think early Megadeth lyrics up until the late 90s were pretty damn good though cheesy at times) and overall it feels lazy.

13 must be pretty crappy considering I thought TSHF was pretty good, UA was decent, Endgame was the best since Countdown etc and I thought 13 was sheer unadulterated anus. Even with studio magic the fire is just gone, the riffs are very substandard, the lyrics are the most laughable they've ever been and overall it just feels castrated and like a parody of itself (especially the hit the lights riff in NWO). I wish I could go back in time and see Megadeth in the early 90s, hell even when I saw them in 2004 and they opened with Set the world afire and then proceeded to destroy The Warfield, they kicked ass.
