new metallica song.

that's false, Metallica is very well capable of writing creative, sophisticated music (they hit their peak on "...and Justice for All"), but they decided to go pop metal and sell out with the black album
I haven't heard that one before

Yikes.
I thought the song sounded fine in the beginning, but got worse as it went on. The lead was ok and the riffs around it, but the rest of the song was nothing ear-catching.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and wait for the studio version before I give my final thoughts, but I'm not optimistic.
:Smug:

Didn't they admit to St. Anger songs being a little longwinded?
This song sounds 3 or 4 minutes too long to me, but hey, what should they care. Whatever

I think it says it all about st anger that they aint played one song off it in the last lot of shows, that in itself shows that they know themselves that it's a monumental fuck up of an album.

I'm still optimistic for a return to older ways with this next effort.

well it's been said a lot because it's probably one of the easiest observations to make :p kinda like looking down at the grass and noticing it's green

Likewise with Load and Reload. The previous two times Metallica played the RDS, they only played 1 song off Load/Reload and that was Fuel. They also only played two songs off St. Anger, those being St Anger and Frantic. That just about says it all to be honest.

Metallica was the first metal band i really got into when i was like 15 or 16 and i loved their older stuff all the way up the black album but after that it has all went downhill and i remember how excited me and my mates were when we heard st.anger for the first time as we all thought it would be old skool metallica as that is what jamez had said in all interviews leading up to it, and oh so how dissapointed we all were and we actually were trying to convince ourselves that it was a joke and we would here the real st.anger soon after, but sadly it never came and i have hated them ever since, even live now they are pretty rank

again, i cant believe how many people bitch about something when the message board they are in are only playing 20 year old songs. Yeah the singing aint great, but for all we know this could just be a demo or who knows what. It dont sound a thing like st anger or load or reload or the black album for that matter. To me this song and the new album really has potential. Let me guess, if joey belladonna was whining on it you all would say its a hit right? Like the guy in a post previous said....even if they put out the most metal album since master of puppets, it still wouldnt be good for you. So go ahead and start flaming my comment, if you dont like it, dont listen to it and dont buy the fucking album, doyou think that they really care? but it dont suprise me coming from the same board that the majority of people said that the new queensryche album was good...yeah.

wrong... this has nothing to do with how "metal" the new record is going to be... this is about whether Metallica can write a decent record of any music, I could personally give a rat's ass if it was metal whatsoever... the last sophisticatedly musical album Metallica put out was 18 years ago... the new song is the same boring, generic drivel with a different coat of paint... the math is done for us

Heard this live at Donington and to be honest I thought parts of it dragged but as a whole it really kicked the shit live, heavy heavy riff and James was spitting out the vocal it drag it places but when it kicked back it fuck it was heavy. I really dont like the st anger stuff and I went off metallica after the Black album, but there donington show was simply amazing 200% of the wall fuck man even they know where its at, they played the whole of Master Of Puppets in track order one after the other as part of its 20 birthday, man I have waited so long to see that. They even played almost a hour over there set time.
