Peavey proudly announces the new Butcher™ guitar amplifier, a 100-watt, all-tube head that specializes in innovative versatility and timeless, brutal British tone.

The Butcher is a two-channel amplifier with five 12AX7 preamp tubes and four EL34 power amp tubes. Both the Clean and Crunch channels feature independent three-band EQ, plus master volume and preamp gain controls so guitarists can adjust the interplay between the preamp and power amp on each channel for an array of gain possibilities. Both channels include a separate, footswitchable gain boost, while the Crunch channel also has a 12-way Punch selector that adjusts the low-end attack of the amplifier—a handy feature that helps match the head to various speaker enclosures.

The master section widens the range of possibilities with two footswitchable master volumes, so players can set one as a default and use the second as a solo boost; a patented Presence control that boosts the extreme high frequencies, giving the amp extra cut; and high and low gain inputs.

On the rear panel, the built-in Peavey MSDI™ microphone-simulated XLR direct interface eliminates the need for miking by allowing users to send the amp's signal directly to a recording device or mixing console. Additional controls include a line out with level control; active effects loop with send and return level control; impedance selector; half-power switch; and a tube bias adjustment jack.

The Peavey Butcher amplifier will be available from authorized Peavey retailers in Q2 2010.

MSRP at $1500,- probably means it will hit street at around $1000,- tops.

They really need to lay off that droopy ballsack design. Corporate identity doesn't mean everything has too look like shit.

I wonder if it's a reissue specs-wise of the original Peavey Butcher from the 80s - basically a lawsuit Marshall JCM800? Quite a buzz about these on the used market, seems like a cool amp.

Original Butcher Specs were:

Power Amp - 4x6L6GC Tubes with 12AX7 Driver
Preamp - 2x12AX7 Tubes

From what I heard this is straight up ultra series with a few mods.... I'd like to hear it though before I believe anything though.

More like $1199-1249. Higher list than a 6505+ won't equal out to a lower street price.

Yeah I was probably a bit low-balling there. Should still be quite a significant difference to MSRP though.

Those old Butchers came out biased so cold from the factory that many people found them to be quite unpleasant compared to a JCM 800. Biased very cold even for Peavey standards...

But the circuit was indeed very similar to a 2203. With a proper bias mod you had quite an usable amp.

I have no idea what they go about today, but about 10 years ago you get them for dirt cheap used. Way below $500.

Ain't that already the XXX, 3120 respectively?

A high-end British voiced model would fit better into the product line. And the reference to the old Butcher suggests so.

You're the amp builder here, but can you really draw such a conclusion from the amount of preamp tubes?

Edit: I mean, the JVM 410H also has 5 ECC83's ;) and that thing is quite British to my ears.

Well I'm assuming one for the loop, and that leaves 4. So from that judgment it might well be an Ultra series amp. I'd have to see it first though. I'm just basing my assumption off of what I heard on another board.

It could be anything, I really don't know. I'd have to know if the EQ was active or not, and if there is a cathode follower or not(Ultra series uses active EQ and no CF, Marshall 'style' uses a CF before a passive tone stack).
