anyone else find this mix to be awesome?

sometimes the stuff jason gets to do makes me not want to record anymore, not sure if he mixed or even got the tones, but this album is awesome sounding

I love the kick

and upon further listening I like pretty much all of it.. excellent production, maybe Mark Lewis can jump in here and give us some details? this album is beast

love the mix Not digging the tunes, i just can't hahah some of it is sick but its the flows that are a bit lacking hahah

I'm constantly stunned by this dudes vocals and the production

Guitars sound pretty good. Vocals sound a little strange to me.

Some of the music is kinda cool, some of it is boring. I dig the song End of Flesh, but I've only listened to about the first half of the album so far.

vocals sound so burried. good production but I couldn't care less about the music.

The vocals sound COMPLETELY on top of everything to me? They sound ridiculously processed and huge but in a bad way, they just take over everything.

Minus the vocals, its a pretty sick mix. The toms are really weird, dark and kinda clipping. I'm kind of in two minds about the mix actually.. its got a cool vibe but there are a lot of really weird things about it, that KINDA work.

I'm not entirely sure about the mix (I think it was him) but the tones are all from his studio - 5150 > Mesa 4x12. They had a huge shoot-out for this album, tried a JSX, Triple Rec, EVH 5150 III, and some Marshall, but the 5150 Mk1 came up trumps. They still use the EVH 5150 III live though I believe.

Unless I'm wrong, I always assumed Suecof was more of a tracking engineering than mix engineer, so it makes sense that he was responsible for the tones.

thats so weird to hear

someone i record talked to them recently and the guitar players said that jason made them mic the cab because he was lazy...

Something tells me that Jason has other reasons for not setting up mics all the time and using Suecof as an engineer a lot. I dunno, just a hunch...

I would totally make band members mic the cab, though - set it up where you think it should be, and then yell at them from the control room while they move it in small increments. Save your hearing and stay in your big comfy chair!

since its cool to dislike whitechapel now i am going to proclaim my undying love for them just so i can be a unique and beautiful snowflake

but in all seriousness, i look forward to checking this mix out in 10.

I know you're taking that from sevenstring.org, but here was the actual post about it:

"Whitechapel Album, Amp Shoot Out!
So we started getting ready to do guitars and we had an amp shoot out with a bunch of different amps trying to pick the perfect tone for the CD. It was alot of fun.

The amps in questions were:

5150 Block Letter, 5150 II, 5150 III, 6505+, 2 Channel Mesa Dual Rec (with EL34s), 2010 Mesa Dual Rec (with 6L6s), Revision Blue Bogner Uberschall, and a modded JCM 800.

We tried all of these through a Mesa 4x12 with V30's, and all of them were boosted with a Maxon OD-808 as well.

If i had to rank them in order of my favorites it'd go something like this:

5150 III
5150 Block
Bogner
2010 Mesa Dual
5150 II
6505+
JCM800
2 Channel Mesa Dual

My favorite pick was the 5150 III, but the block letter 5150 sounded sick too, and Suecof was really digging that one, so ultimately we went with the block letter for this albums amp. We used a 6505 on This Is Exile but this 5150 sounds way better. Guess it has more mojo to it hahaha, it sounds roaring and beastly.

The Bogner sounded awesome, reminded me of a Mesa but smoother, had the same sag to it though. Would have been awesome to double track on each side for a layer but we decided that was going to take too much time.

The JCM800 was a big surprise, it sounded great, just not for us. I forget who he said it was modded by but it had a ridiculous amount of gain on tap. Sounded really thick and big.

The new Mesa was an awesome surprise as well. Definitely was what they said it was, more open, less compressed sounding. Don't get me wrong, it definitely still sounds like a Mesa Rec for sure, just a better version of it. We were about to use it as a layer with the 5150 too but like i said we just decided it would be better/more time efficient and keep it to 1 track per side. It definitely blew away the 2 channel, which was a weird surprise. But then again the 2 channel had EL34's which i'm not a fan of either so that's probably why.

So yeah that's the skinny of it, i'll shut up now since this is getting long, but there you have it. The new album will be 5150 Block Letter boosted with a Maxon OD-808 into a Mesa 4x12. Miced with 2 SM57's. Huge, saturated, and pissed sounding!"

There was also a Peavey 3120 there, but they never tried it out... Honestly, Alex seems kind of ignorant/not very bright from all the posts I've seen of his on sevenstring.org... haha.

Well Alex is a fucking badass guitarist, I don't think it's his job to be an engineer who totally knows his way around amps and cabs

You mean using Mark Lewis as an engineer?

Is Jason still in a wheelchair?

What's the story behind Suecof being in a wheelchair anyway?
Always wondered that, but never been able to find much info on it
