NFL 2014

A lot of different opinions on the matchup. Couple of my buddies were saying it was basically a guaranteed win for the Saints and this and that, and then i come here and not a single person has said the Saints would win

Ended up taking my chances on the Senators-Sabres game. And after a sketchy ass first period, its looking good for me

So @ cf: The Eagles held the run game to an even worse ypc. It started out promising, it looked like at the beginning Dallas tried running ISOs with some success, and then they went back to running their stretches and counters, which repeatedly went nowhere. I understand you try to run the plays that normally work, but it is/was pretty obvious that you can't leave holes in the line from a lineman pulling, or bounce outside again Philly. Use the weight of that line when being cute ain't cutting it. Not sure why they didn't keep pushing and running between the center/guard.

Yeah the Eagles have really established a strong run d and pass rush. However, the scheme puts so much pressure on the DBs and the skill level just isn't there. Not sure about the specific motives on the run choices by Dallas, but perhaps they were trying to avoid the front three, who have been run stuffers.

Well my point is they weren't stuffing when the runs were straight ahead, just get your man and push types. It was when the run depended on someone to pull or sweep that it didn't work. It might also have been because Martin was hobbled and Parnell had to come in, but given the last game I'm going to just assume the Eagles have gap discipline and can set the edge well. But again, at the very beginning of the game, when everyone was fresh, the Dallas line was getting good push when going straight ahead. Not that this is real world evidence necessarily, but I normally like to run counters on Madden, but when a team has the edge players or formations to shut it down, I usually find the middle soft for runs straight ahead, either with or without a lead block.

I'm wondering if since Dallas is so used to running counters etc that Linehan didn't deviate just because he figured he would call what the line is normally good with. That seems like questionable OCing. The strikes to Dez though were pure Romo/Dez recognizing and beating the coverage, as the pass protection was much improved this time, and Romo was much more mobile. That dodge he had midway through the game on Cole or Cox was similar to the move he put on Watt earlier in the year.

If Romo keeps up his play, he's going to finish with the best year in the league from a QB (speaking in terms of Total QBR and/or QB Rating), and that's even with those terrible SF and Philly games, and playing all kinds of banged up all year.

Nah, it goes to Rodgers.

Rodgers still has to play Detroit. Romo has Indy and Washington, neither of whom have been phenomenal against the pass, and Rodgers only has a slight lead on Romo in ratings.

Yea he's only one of the best running-backs in the league, I'm sure Randle and Dunbar have the vision and ability Murray has ... wat? it's a huge loss dude.

Context man. It's only one game and Indy is not stiff against the run and Randle has looked good when given a chance to carry. Of course he isn't as good as Murray but he isn't going to just fall down when handed the ball (he has 7 ypc avg on 34 carries).

Ratings are nice and both of their stats are pretty but Rodgers does things on the field that don;t count on the stat sheet and his athletic ability and ability to throw so accurate on the run, off his back foot, down the sideline is just phenomenal. I really like Romo but Rodgers is tier one all by himself.

Oh I'm getting a lesson in context? lol Yes, yes you're right in a sense but taking Mrray off the field changes the Defensive game plan. The guy is a fucking beast and when he's not on the field I don't think the Colts D is going to sneak up Safety and press against the run. The Cowboys really need this game (imo they lose this game they're out) and I think missing Murray is going to hurt them but we'll see.

I think Rodgers does better with a clean pocket, but put some pressure on and I'd rather have Romo.

And yes, Dallas cannot afford to lose any games. Crazy fucking situation this year. 12-4 vs 11-5 may be the difference between a 1st round by or not in the playoffs.

Benching Cutler is interesting. Clausen is definitely worse, so that helps them tank the last two games. It protects Cutler from any sort of injury if they want him back or if they want to try to trade him. As bad as he has been, there aren't 32 better QBs. It seems possible that WSH or NYJ could take a chance. It also allows Trestman to blame Cutler for his failings in case the Clausen led team is passable.

Haha I was coming here to post about that. There is definitely more wrong with the Bears than Cutler. Washington and the Bears could do an even steven.
