Nick Scott

Shit, no idea how he have "made it" in this field.. he seems unstable as fuck and always claims all kinds of BS (blablaa aspergers is no excuse for his behavior..)
Oh and another +1 for jeff.. would never use anyone else for drum editing.

Jeff, PM me your rates and turn around times for drum editing dude, would be good to have a contact for this on the days I can't be fucked doing it myself.

I think it is pretty sad that a guy who has had such great opportunities (working with Machine & Joey) has left such a trail of lies and let downs and totally destroyed his own reputation in the engineering world, he's been in a position to really make something of himself and have a great career but I honestly don't think he'll be able to recover from this now, suppose he'll just have to cling onto Joey and hope that relationship works out in the long run.

Not to be judgmental, as I have no real experience with him nor any stake in this matter, but can somebody help me understand why somebody so frequently criticized for speciousness would consistently be given major opportunities by significant figures in the newer metal scene. Is unreliability a desirable quality when working with projects of that nature? Is it perhaps the desire of these figures to disprove the claims?

Your over thinking it. It's just wanting to work with a big name and doing whatever to get the job. Even if that means lying about what skills you actually have. Pretty simple really. Most people will not lie about their talents though and for that reason will not get these type of gigs.

You could call it a con artist of sorts.

Understandable, but sooner or later you have to prove your worth. If I wasn't skilled at what I do for a living, I would not last 5 minutes in the position.

Perhaps he serves more a gopher / ego boosting position?

i think he has gained the majority of his opportunities because nick is a freaking AMAZING guitarist. he is beyond incredible, which is a HUGE commodity for metal producers... and the guitar performance is half the battle in metal production.

being a flakey engineer on small editing work or trolling an internet forum isn't going to ruin his reputation in the big leagues. being a flake and slacking off with the bigger producers will ruin his reputation.

people pick who they want to work with and the OP said that "I've heard of a few people claiming they were ripped off by Nick and I've never been one to judge." ...this means, he knew what he was getting into and without question, most of you responded with ...obviously!

...and like josh said, this is an opt in process. you have to be willing to do unforgivable things (sometimes) to get what you want. i know i have flaked on people before and i am certain you all have too and feel really shitty about it.

call me when he's wanted for murder.

Well from what I understand he is banned from working at Machine Shop again so I would say he is fucking up his profession career. You can rationalize things all day long, but at the end of the day a snake in the grass will always be a snake in the grass.

He's a great guitar player so it's ok if he fucked you guys over, just as long as he doesn't screw someone with a bigger name than yours. What a load of shit.

When I bought the mic off of Nick not one person on this forum said anything in his ad, not one. So I had no clue about his shitty reputation.

I got paid in the end, so I no longer have any skin in the game. Just feel bad for all the guys here that didn't end up getting what they paid for.

To be fair I think that was the first time he posted something for sale on the forum, but rest assured he won't get away with it again. I think Jeff will make sure of that

To that end I think we all need to do a better job of looking out for each other. When people rip off others in this community it undermines the whole place. I've met friends, made purchases and hired guys all based on the relationships I've built here and I want everyone to view it as the positive and "safe" place I've experienced. Apples and barrels and such.

I agree, we should all look out for one another here. Rest assured, I will do my best to make sure people are aware of potential bad risks.

sorry but no

and for the record I've never flaked on anybody ... I do what I say I'm gonna do. I may have to adjust timeframes a little once in a while but then again I always try to leave myself some wiggle room

I've never had a single person complain in any way about my professionalism

besides all that ... I can get shit done on guitar as well, I don't see that as giving me any additional leeway when it comes to how I treat clients / friends / bands I've been a part of, etc

i guess it's safe to say, i don't know enough about the person or the situation. so butting in with rational, diplomacy is pointless, i suppose. but burning him at the stake is just as pointless imo.

still, people like this are not rare in this industry... as a matter of fact it's as common as a rain drop. maybe his career will be short-lived, maybe he will become the most successful producer in history? whatever.

also, i'm not saying i give a shit whether or not nick is an incredible guitarist... or who is better. i was just saying it probably has a lot to do with his opportunity to work with bigger names.

i have. but i don't think i have ever been called a flake or have been accused of being unprofessional but i know people who have that reputation but still seem to be working.

People try and look out for each other but then threads/posts get deleted
