Curse at me all you want. I dared to post this, YES I DARED! So go home and listen to that horrible death growl crap all day and all night long if you want, I have my own preferences!

The music has gone up shit's creek thanks to idiots like you.

Oh calm down, have a coke and listen to Damnation.

Of course you "have your own preferences", but how the fuck did you expect people to react to this? The death growls are just as much a part of Opeth as the cleans, so if you don't like that, then maybe Opeth just isn't for you. Not trying to flame you, just being realistic.

I don't think it's a bad question nor a bad poll. Your reactions to the poll could be forseen and unfortunately the over stated passion is... well.... overstated. OP has a right to said opinion even if you disagree. His/her second post though was a -4.

I personally don't think that the growls should ever leave Opeth's music. Opeth has always been about dynamics and the growls and screams are a key component to this.

Thanks I will. So if I drink coke and like Damnation I'm stupid and a loser, right? I explained already why I posted this poll. You are only fooling yourselves if you think Opeth are gonna continue with Deliverance-type albums. How many songs with death growls are there on Watershed? I bet there's gonna be even fewer on the next album. It's obvious to everyone who knows something about music and Opeth that Mikael has gone prog. So calm down, have a Heineken or whatever fuck you drink and face the facts!

Maybe not a bad question/poll, but his reactions to the obvious reactions of everyone else makes this poll fail.

When everybody keeps posting "What a dumb fucking post! Dumbest thread/poll ever!", how am I gonna react? And that's all I'm willing to say. Anyway, folks...try to understand. Mikael has already achieved everything he could possibly achieve with the use of growl vocals vs clean vocals. It's time to fuckin' move on! What's wrong with that? Ok, maybe he shouldn't completely cut them out but at least they should do another growlfree album.

Wow, you actually know more about Opeth than anybody I have ever known!!! You even know more than Mike!!! You are truly amazing. And you certainly put me in my place, let me tell you...

The growls definitely take some getting used to - and have probably turned away 80 per cent of Opeth's potential fan base...
For me (now) the growls are indispensable to the music, but at first I hated them.

I think Watershed is a sign that they are moving away from that style though - only 3 songs with the cookie monster

I don't know what Opeth are going to do with the next album, but I expect both clean singing and growls to still be present. I have never been a big fan of growling, but it usually works with Opeth. So I'd say "I don't think so".

Mikael is one of the best growlers on the planet right now, for him to stop using that talent would be blasphemy. I say for people that dont like the growls, learn to like it and adjust, or move along... move along.

the real proof to how much this poll fails is how the graph clearly resembles the male genital

I personally hope they never lose the growls, but there is plenty of evidence to suggest that they ultimately will. For one thing, Mike's prog influences are vast and far-reaching, but his death metal influences seem to come almost entirely from a single band (Morbid Angel). The trend in recent years has definitely been to reduce the growls little by little over the course of the last few albums, and I'm pretty sure Mikael is bored to tears by the death metal scene in general. So, unless a death metal record comes along that really grabs him by the nuts and inspires him, I can't imagine where he can continue to find inspiration from that genre.

Plus (looking down the road), wouldn't it be ridiculous to see a 50-year Mike growling?

Answer: No, it would be AWESOME.

Death growls in Opeth are somehow its essence. Mikael has the best voice in all the metal scene for that. I was reading what you said, and your thread could have made some sense, but you are taking this death growls thing too much personnal and you're passing for a fool. You had to know that 90% of all Opeth fans prefer Opeth like they are right now, and don't want them to change (not too much, enough to impress). Our reaction was totally natural. And I really don't believe Mikael is going to leave his death growls in Opeth, because even if his clean voice his great, these growls make Opeth unique. I think you are too confident about it.

We'll see who is right. Good luck!:Smokedev:

Are you stupid?
Seriously, I mean - Opeth is a progressive death metal band and the growling part is just as massive and important as the clean part and in my opinion it's even the better part...

No way should Opeth lose the growls..that would be a great shame :( I mean Mike has (imo) the best voice in metal music atm, both screams and clean, and the loss of contrast between them would destroy a bit of that 'special something' that Opeth has. It may just be that Mike's death metal taste is being satisfied by Bloodbath atm, what with their new album coming out soon and all.
