Non-Metal bands?

apart from metal I listen to some classic prog bands, like Camel and King Crimson. seems like I'm getting more and more into this genre. don't forget, I'm already old.
I also own some classical music CDs, there's also lots of interesting stuff there
 
outside of Metal I like goth rock (Joy Division The Cure) old school punk (Minor Threat Dead Kennedys) indie (The Smiths Radiohead) metalcore (Length of time poison the well) and some old fashioned rock music ( Fu Manchu Hellacopters)
 
Outside Metal I like Alternative(Matchbox 20, 3EB) Hardcore(Hatebreed, Poison the Well) Pop Punk(Fenix TX, NFG, Blink) Punk Punk(Offspring, Police, Ramones, Dead Kennedys) Ska(Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Bosstones) Reggae(Marley, Big Mountain, UB40, Inner Circle) Jazz, Classical, Prog(Dream Theater, a little Yes and Genesis) old HipHop(Public Enemy, Krs-One, Tribe Called Quest) Country, borderline Pop(Vanessa Carlton) Classic Rock(Zeppelin, Doors, Who, Cream, a little Kiss).

Yeah, I'm diverse.
 
i like to listen to some hardcore/metalcore such as converge, eden maine, caliban, sick of it all, the army of flying robots, kaospilot, the number 12 looks like you, stampin' ground etc... And i often enjoy some of my dad's pink floyd albums that he plays in the car. I really like anathema's newest material on a fine day to exit as well. I like the odd bit of tool as well. Used to like punk but its fallen out of favour with my ears in recent times
 
Next to some German bands/ musicians like Peter Maffay/ BAP/ Klaus Lage I mostly listen to these old classic rock(-pop) bands like Toto/ Saga/ Eagles/ Lynyrd Skynyrd/ Journey/ etc etc. And then there is some great pop music out there like Robbie Williams and Vanessa Amorosi. Not to forget three of my very favorite: Eric Clapton, Joe Jackson and Mary Black.

well i'm not listening to much metal this days...
i like classical,movie sountracks(danny elfman owns),prog rock(king crimson,genesis,camel),pink floyd,peter gabriel, some electronica(bjork, ulver).
i'm constantly trying to find new music that fits my tastes(usually dark,epic,sad,orchestral stuff) of any kind.... so suggestions will be nice.
 
I use to enjoy ambient and germanic folk music, such as eg. vinterriket, nordhaunt, wongraven, forseti very much, and there's also some classical stuff, which is quite listenable (orff, wagner...)

The point is, that the music, i use to listen to has to be either agressive or sad, depressive, melancholic, the way those atmosphere is created is irrelevant to me...

i kind feel the same way as you.
 
I love loads of non metal bands. My favorite would have to be the Ozric tentcles.
i also like genesis, pink floyd, frank zappa, wishbone ash, led zeppelin, ddep purple, yes and lots of other stuff like that.
