I just downloaded and I'm listening to it. I'll give my impressions later.

Well after an excruciating experience I finished with "Nostradamus" in full.

This puppy gave me the same effect that Iron Maiden did with AMOLAD. It is:

  1. too damn long
  2. fill with unnecessary short tracks
  3. absolutely divorced from "Stained Class", "Defenders Of The Faith", "Painkiller" or even "Angel Of Retribution"
  4. boring
  5. unispiring
  6. unworthy of the band
  7. damn I even like more some tunes from "Demolition" at least they sound like metal
  8. 'New Beginnings' is awful 'Close To Home', 'Out In The Cold', 'Desert Plains' or even 'Angel' beat this one as a bad ballad
  9. Remember the guitar attack driven on "Ram It Down", it is nowhere here
  10. most songs are coupled together so it'll be a pain to record it (if I ever buy it)
  11. 'Conquest' and 'Persecution' are among the most digestable Priest-alike songs, but subpar compared to past albums IMO.

Now comes the ethical question. I own all JP albums so far, so if I have crap like "Point Of Entry" and "Demolition" shouldn't I have this too, or is completism unjustified?

My guess is that I will buy it eventually when I found it on e-Bay really cheap. Damn I'm pissed , Alestorm, Death Angel, Sabaton, Viron, Benedictum, Firewind even Nazareth (at least they keep true to their sound) came with better albums this year than the almighty Priest.

If anyone had listened to it I will like to hear a second opinion.

After 2 spins, here are my conclusions:
It's a good album. Not Painkiller or Sad Wings (or whatever you consider their best) but not bad either. The songs are somewhat of a blend of Defenders, Painkiller, Jugulator and Angel of Retrib. However:

There's WAAAY too much bullshit. I can't help but feel if it were a 50 minute album with 10-12 songs (not interludes and parts with Rob wailing for 80 bars) with good production, this would be one of the better Priest albums.

If they actually play the whole thing live, you're gonna see more sleepy fans than at a Dream Theater concert. Still, I wouldn't mind hearing a few new songs live, mixed in with the classics.

@Wyvern: once more we agree, bro :kickass:

Totally agree!
The same syndrome Maiden's been suffering since X Factor, now Priest got Maidenitis as well... :erk:

That's how it's gonna be, judging by the setlist I've seen.

ah well I'll buy the other albums of theirs that I don't have at the same time so I can listen to those when I get bored of this.

Snooooooooze :erk:

I suppose that means it bored you to death?

:saint: and btw congrats on the 2-1.

I agree that with those cuts it'll have been a decent album and worth to buy at full price.

I have to spin it (oh te pain, the pain) a couple of more times to see if it worth get it used someday.

That's exactly what it means. I have been afraid of this. Damn!

I was afraid since they said they wanted symphonic parts in an album. Damn it!, it's Judas Priest not Dream Theater, I want kick ass metal.

Well is not the end of the world, there are plenty of other bands ready to deliver and worth to buy their albums. Life goes on.

Indeed. The new Testament is, to my ears, the best album of the last two years. I'd lost track of them after Souls Of Black but this masterpiece completelly restored my interest in them! Album of the year, by far.

Actually it didn't stroke me that much but what I want to emphazise is that the band didn't sold out, didn't go mellow, didn't slow down or lost power. I guess it should be fair to recognize to bands that have their good chunk of time making music, when they keep on relentlessly making good albums. Bands such as Saxon, Motorhead, Testament are in that league. I really was expecting more from a band such as Judas Priest that already had its faux pas, it seems they didn't learn from the past and moreover they wanted to chew more than what they can swallow. Sad for me a fan of a lifetime

P.S. If you lost track after "Souls Of Black" I recommend you to check "Low" and "The Gathering", if you liked TFOD I'm sure those ones will appeal to you too.

i agree with this somewhat. i thought souls of black sucks though and sounds too rushed. low and the gathering are godlike. the ritual is a good hard rock styled album. demonic blows. i'd like to add that flotsam and jetsam still make metal but its not thrash so i guess they sold out. lizzy borden is still making the same metal they always have but yes very few metal bands are still making metal

anyways i'm buying the album tuesday and refuse to hear and songs until then. i hated angel of retribution except for 3 tracks so i might like this. it can't be worse than manowars last album
