Nostradamus finally leaked.

Upon first listen, I rather enjoyed the album. It's already caught my interest more then Angel of Retribution ever did. Definitely a massive double album... need to listen thru it a couple of more times...

Man it's killing me reading this thread! The CD goes on sale today, $11.99 at Best Buy. I don't recall EVER hesitating to get a Priest album :(

Dude, Deron, I was SO let down by this. Like others have said, it might be an ok release by another band, but this just is not Judas Priest to me....:ill:

I listened to a little bit of it today while i was at the record store picking up the last 2 Nachtmystium cds and i gotta say its even worse than Angel Of Retribution sorry but i think priest oughta go the black sabbath route and just tour.

Great album! But if you want Painkiller Part Deux or a rehash of their sing along hits (Living After Midnight, Another thing Coming etc) then avoid.

Priest have delivered the goods :headbang:

I've only had time for one complete listen of the album but I like it. After reading all of the posts in this thread I'm wondering if there's something wrong with me. :) Anyways, I thinks it's interesting (after only one listen). Sounds like some people wanted another Painkiller album and are upset they didn't get it, which is cool, but since I didn't like Painkiller I'm pleased with the sound of the new album. I like that they mix it up a little on each album.

I'm glad some people like it, after all this is not the official bashing JP club, we are UMOS!

Some of us dislike it, some do like it, it's all fine as long as nobody take it personally.

mmm but I'm not being a fanboy anyway. I think it's more interesting that angel of retribution

Well said. I'm just surprised at the response to this album. I think it may just be one of those albums that takes a while to grow on people. Who knows?

I'm holding off on my thoughts as I've just downloaded it, but a few songs in I'm liking it just fine. Obviously, to each his own, but I'm kind of surprised by the many negative reviews. So far so good for me! Maybe I'll change my mind as the album progresses. I'll be listening to it tonight and tomorrow.

Dunno man, I have listened to it a lot and I can't make it grow on me except maybe 2-3 songs isolated, won't worth to buy it for just that :ill:

This CD reminds me quite a bit of Framing Armageddon. They're both massive, epic concept albums. The songs are paced a little on the deliberate side, and employ orchestration & instrumental interludes. The singers are both "wailers" (or used to be, at least) but sing largely in a lower octave in a controlled manner.

Agree! But the difference FOR ME (as always a subjective matter) is that "Framing Armageddon" is alright for Iced Earth, but "Nostradamus" is unworthy for Judas Priest. Maybe I'm setting the bar too high, but it´s difficult for me when it comes to Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath/Heaven & Hell, etc., the curse of being a legend I guess :erk:

Right. When I interviewed Tim Owens he said that a number of people who he provided advances took out the intros/instrumental peices because they felt it bogged down the album.... In the end it too was a mixed bag...

I've heard a lot of negative thigs about this album. It's that fucken concept album bombast that afflicts all musicians at some time or another. The only thing worse than a concept album is a double concept album.

My 2 cents after a couple of listens is that I like it a lot more than most here seem to.

It definitely moves slow, but not so slow as to bog down, I think. Though, I understand pretty much all of the criticism too. It is long, and plods along, broadly speaking, at about the same pace throughout, giving one less variety than might be necessary in such a long undertaking.

Still, most of the songs are pretty good, taken alone, and some are fantastic (Persecution, Death, Exiled, a few others).

My thumb is more up than down on this one, with an extra half star since I thought it was gonna suck from the get go, that is, as soon as I heard it was a concept album about Nostradamus I thought...uh oh. They could have chosen a more "metal" and obscure figure, like John Dee (16th century occult figure), or even Crowley, but oh well. Nostradamus is about as interesting and metal as an afterschool special.

Still, it does have an older Priest vibe to it in its darkness and lack of huge choruses. It's not old Priest in any way, I just mean the overall vibe is more similar to 70s Priest than it is post-70s. Again, not in quality or even style, but in vibe. That's cool. However, the one obvious ballad is really pretty bad (Lost Love).

It's pretty good overall, I think. I can see why Wyvern (and others) don't like it though, as it is a rough equivelent of the new Maiden stuff, which I know doesn't sit well with you either. I think old Maiden fans who embraced A Matter of Life and Death are more likely to embrace this (if they are also old Priest fans).

It'll be interesting to see what new fans think.

If nothing else, and I really do think its pretty good, at least they tried something new. They get points just for being willing to explore this late in the day, as it were.
