i have to say it is in my top 5...BUT i've only bought i think 7-8 albums that have come out this year, and quite a few old ones. but i still think its excellent and its starting to sound better each listen, which is nice...

Yeah, I reckon my other 4 would be:
Nile : In Their Darkened Shrines
Hate Eternal : King of All Kings
Limbonic Art : Ultimate Death Worship
Sentenced : The Cold White Light (not necessarily a great record per se but it brings back memories)
:)

Yes, and it happens to be my album of the year without question. I think the album is fantastic and do not understand what people are complaining about..Especially those who claim to love Opeth. It showcases every style they play wonderfully, and they haven't "sold out" (a term people just love to throw around, not necessarily even at Opeth either..) so what the fuck is the problem?

Not only is it in my top 5, but it's at the top my top five

1. Opeth - Deliverance
2. Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines
3. Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
4. Behemoth - Zos Kia Cultus
5. Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors

Nope, they would grab the number six spot of the year for me though. Come to think of it, they were number six in my top ten of 2001 too. Isn't that neat?

Top 10 for me... Other stuff like:

Immolation - Unholy Cult
Malevolent Creation - The Will To Kill
Nile - In Their Darkened Shrines
Disgorge - Consume the Forsaken
Iniquity - Grime

are my top five... Opeth is somewhere in the second five, with Lacuna Coil, and a few others. :p

It is in the top 5, but not at the top of them

By the way, isn't In Absentia going to be released in 2003?

nope, the American version came out in September, i saw it on import in HMV a few days ago and bought it, now i find out its gonna contain a bonus disc on the European version, oh well, come to think of it, im not that bothered.

Yes it is, but this is the first time in the release year of an Opeth album that it hasn't held the No1 spot on my list.......

Darn right! definately.
It's in my Top 3 of the year.

I couldnt have asked for a better Opeth album.

My list.
1. Down -II
2. Opeth -Deliverance
3. Cephalic Carnage -Lucid Interval

Top albums for me are:

1. Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
2. Opeth - Deliverance
3. Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors
4. Cipher - One Who Whispers
5. Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head

But that's just off the top of my head. Ask me again tomorrow and it'll likely be different, but I think the top two spots are secure.
