Now Playing

Awesome, since I do like both styles. More Sanctus Ignis, and More Archangels please. Do you know what the new band will be called so i can be on the lookout for them? Also any hints as to the guitarist :) It couldn't be MJR... could it?

No, not MJR (though that would be unbelievably awesome!), but I do have a pretty good hunch just based on what he's said on the matter so far. According to that interview, the guitarist is:

1. A "well-known American"
2. Someone Stephan has worked with before
3. Was on tour at the time of that interview
4. Has "not really" played with Megadeth (this is the big one, if you ask me)

My guess? Jeff Loomis. :D

He's American and pretty well known in the metal-scene, he did some guest-guitar work on Stephan's solo album (The Shadows Compendium), he indeed was on tour at the time of that interview, and he auditioned to be in Megadeth when he was 16 but didn't get the gig (so in essence he has "played" with Megadeth, but "not really".)

I could be wrong, but that's the first person who came to mind.

Stephan actually said in a recent interview (about one month ago) that from now on he plans moreso on keeping Adagio for the symphonic, progressive stuff and is currently putting together another band that will focus more on that aggressive direction most prominent on the last 2 albums.

This is great news. I love all of Adagio's albums, but excluding a few great tracks on Dominate, I prefer their first two. Underworld is my favorite, with the title track being absolutely incredible. Their darker stuff with the growling just doesn't seem to fit the style as much as the vocals on the first two albums do. There's no shortage of growly bands, but bands who play as well as Adagio are few and far between.

Oh, and even though Stephan gets all the credit, their bass player is outstanding.

I like all their stuff but Underworld is truly their crown. If you haven't listened to it yet you are doing yourself a great disservice. I am also quite confident in saying Underworld is one of my top albums ever alongside V: The New Mythology Suite.

I really wish they didn't lose David Readman on vocals though, he worked so well with Adagio....

That would be Frank Hermany, and yes, he is quite under appreciated.

^^ On that note...

I don't know if you're already aware, but Stephan posted via his Facebook page that they're going to be releasing two demo songs from the new album for download on New Year's Day. Consider me psyched! :headbang:

Never get tired of this album. It sounds as fresh as the first time I listened to it back in 2004. :headbang:

This is great. I hadn't heard of these guys before. Too bad the only physical copies of the CD I can find are way overpriced, even used.

Aeon zen: Enigma

I´ve never heard of this band and I stumbled upon this album on Spotify. It really took me by surprise. It´s progmetal but not in a Dream Theater or Symphony X kinda way. Bits of it remind me of Devin Townsend, Scar Symmetry or Muse.

If you´re looking for something fresh to listen, do yourself a favor and check it out.

^ Yep they're pretty good. You should listen to their 2011 album "The Face of the Unknown", it's even better than Enigma.

wortwhile having it :Italians prog betterhttp://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/images/smilies/sgrin.gif

The voice-breaking shriek is probably a love/hate thing, but I love it.
Really looking forward to this album.
