Obama's Inauguration Speech

Obama =/= the stupid fucking gangsta blacks. I really laugh at the fact they feel they can relate to him. But I do admit that Jay-Z is fucking awesome and this version of the song is awesome, the original was annoying as shit.

i think the speech was quite good. i mean he is very good rethorically... no doubt about that. especially when you juxtapose him with bush which is quite a naturl thing to do in this situation. the hype makes me speechless tho. people act like this is the second coming of jesus or so ...
Yeah, this. I guess I'm a little jaded because I grew up in an area where black families behaved, spoke, and lived like everyone else in the neighborhood, so for me black has always been nothing more than a descriptor like "brunette" or "tall". I understand on an informational level that a black president is unexpected in the extreme, from a timing perspective, and a historic landmark that will get stuck in history books forever. But most of me doesn't care if he's purple with green spots (though to be honest, the rest of me would LOVE to see makeup and wardrobe work with that), I just voted for the smart guy who was able to say stuff that matched my own ideals. I want very much to believe he'll be a good president and that he was the best of the available choices. For that matter, I'd like to be proud of my country for voting in the smart guy with the good ideas without regard for the color of his skin, but I don't really believe he was elected without regard for the color of his skin. I guess, in the end, I'm just relievd to have a president who can speachify his way out of a paper bag. Good grief!

a politician makes a good speech OMG he must be a decend and honored guy LOL

Who fucking cares, everyone is acting like he's gonna snap his fingers and everything's gonna be better. He's only one man and all policies still have to go through the other dumb ass politicians.
Too bad Kennedy didn't die and steal the spotlight.:headbang:

It's more of a relief from George Bush's reign then anything else. Who knows, maybe there is good to come out of Obama's term, maybe not. Only time will tell these things.

I wish him the best of luck. I hope that him and his Cabinet can get the things done that they need to get done and that those fucktards who're putting the world on his shoulders realize that he, at the most, only has 8yrs to set things straight and only if he gets elected for a second term.

I didn't hear the speech yet, but I can definitely say I'm already tired of people talking about what an "amazing experience" it was to listen to it, or that "things are changing for the better, I can feel it!" or "this is the most important day in the history of the United States" or anything like that.

Yeah, hey we got a new president. And he's black. Neat. Who cares? Why does it have to be such a big deal? Dude hasn't even done anything yet and people are already saying the world's magically a better place now.

Get real.

For the record, I voted for him. I'd like to see some of this change he's talking about too, but I'm not going to just assume it's really going to happen until it actually does.

Oh I didn't see he made a dare, I thought he was waiting on approval of his fridge door cocktail. *goes to thread*

yeah, that is the scary part. People are putting way too much stock in the " possiblity" that he is going to change things.

BUT, getting back to the origin of the thread. The speech was well written and well spoken. He can deliver a line for sure, he is very personable and that is what I took note of. All of the other hype is just that at the moment, hype.

I give him or any other person in similar situations a chance to do, or not do what they say.

If I closed my eyes and disregarded the part about overcoming racial prejudice, it would have been no different from any other President's speech: patriotic language, parallel structures, dramatic pauses, quotes from the Constitution, etc. I don't hate the guy or anything, and I'm glad he at least pretends to share similar ideals to mine (alternative fuel, less influence of religion, and so on), but like Tyler said, he's still a politician.

That, and in the University cafeteria where I was watching the speech, some Obama sheep with red white and blue streamers in her hair was sitting a short distance away from me, clapping at the TV every time he finished a sentence. I guess she thinks her life is going to dramatically change because of this.
