Holy fucking hell I just got back from the show. It was fucking amazing. Sanctity sucked but EoE were ok. They changed up the playlist this time, doing the first five off PL and then Walls of Babylon, Smoke and Mirrors, Out of the Ashes, Inferno, and the The Odyssey. Quite amazing shit, completely blew Sancshity and EoE out of the water.

I'm a Guthrie freak myself. He blew me away when I first heard of him a couple years ago and still blows me away to this day. The guy is a freak...it's not human to be as good as he is. The term "virtuoso" gets thrown around way too loosely most of the time, but in Guthrie's case it's not a strong enough description. Erotic Cakes is one of the best instrumental albums I've ever heard and it's a shame this guy didn't hit the scene sooner than he did. I can't say enough great things about him.:kickass:

I enjoy his playing quite a bit, although I find Erotic Cakes has a little too much Vai worship. Damn fine string bender though!

p.s. Montu, glad you enjoyed the show!

Really? The only song that gave me a Vai vibe was "uncle skunk" and maybe a bit of "sevens". His tone on a few of the songs is kind of Vai-ish too I suppose. My only complaint with the cd is that I had heard every single bootleg recording of him available and when I bought it sounded really over-produced to me.

I dig the production, and would love to hear/see him perform live.
:) Vai worship or not (in spots) he's a really good player :)

Hey guys, I was recently listening to Ayreon and I actually liked what I heard. People always talk about them so I decided I would listen. I bought Into the Electric Castle a few months ago and liked the concept of it all. My only question is, what other Ayreon albums should I pick up? That's all for now, thanks.

Definitely get Flight of the Migrator, it has 'Dawn of a Million Souls' with Russ on vox & MJR soloing throughout..a most awesome song. The Human Equation is also quite good, and The Final Experiment is my favorite. You should also check out Star One, another of Arjen's projects; Russ is on that as well throughout the whole cd.

Thanks Jax, I'll check out Human Equation and the Final Experiment then. I can probably find Dawn of a Millions souls from one of my friends. I heard Romeo's solo on the Ayreon website, its quite amazing and ridiculously hard (the chromatic run). I still don't know if he slides on that part or actually taps every note. To hear something similar to what I am talking about see the Eve of Seduction solo. I think the sliding chromatic part is near the end of the solo.

I can give that a :kickass:

Also, if you've got (i think) 6 bucks to spare, you can get his live DVD's from Tonemerchants. There are two from the tonemerchants store in CA and another one of him with the Fellowship live at the Bassment. I haven't seen the latter of the three yet, but a lot of people over on the Guthrie forums seem to like that even better than the album:OMG:

Oh yeah, I don't know if anyone remembers this, but that guy Fallen2289, that was me about a year ago. I started all the conspiracy theories (V for Vendetta), and relating anything to Symphony X thread. (Shawn Lane is Michael Romeo's brother). That was all before I got banned for starting too many versus threads of Divine Wings vs. the Odyssey. I have learned from my ways and don't plan on doing any of that stuff again. I know many peple found relating Symphony X to Captain Crunche's Hat and V for Vendetta entertaining, but that's in the past.

I don't plan on starting fights with DoomsdayZach, MrFast, or the entire country of Canada. I don't want to get banned again either.

Been a while, but I'm back... J-Dub caught me on the bmusic forum...

Shame about the DT thread... :erk:

Going to get my learners driving licence tomorrow morning...

Yes, you call me out, and I drag you back here kicking & screaming...

Civility started to become a lost art form there, unfortunately!

Good luck with the permit, I'll notify the authorities that you'll be out & about on the roadways...:heh:
