Meh...I'd rather have things boring mostly civil than have a giant clusterfuck of bitching/repeat threads/14 year olds like we had leading up to and lasting a while after PL came out.

*high five*

I have no problem just checking O/T, Friday Five, Pics thread, and a few others. There's a decent amount of activity - it just doesn't seem that way because it's only in the main threads and a few side threads.

I think it's kind of pointless, even if it was legal. It's almost guaranteed to be rigged - probably even more so than casino games. Better not waste your money!

Anyone here cook much?

I'm looking for a really good chili recipe (or several). None of the ones in my recipe book sound stellar and I'm currently searching 'round the web. I'd either be cooking for 3-4 or saving a shit ton of it in the freezer (both of which are fine by me). I like it VERY hot (though, nothing says I couldn't alter any existing recipes to satisfy that).

Vodka? Tequila!

This is supposed to be the best chili around. An old Texas recipe. However (fucked up enough) it's in Swedish. I found it a long time ago on a cooking website. I've never tried it but it sounds good as fuck. http://www.hornfeldt.se/chili.html
Here's a very weak translation; http://www.tranexp.com:2000/InterTr...hornfeldt.se/chili.html&text=&from=swe&to=eng
Maybe you'll get some pointers from it.

I'll try and translate the ingredients from the recipe;

* En mycket stor svart järngryta - A BIG BLACK IRON POT(err.. cauldron?).
* En stekpanna - A FRYING PAN.
* En liten kastrull - A SMALL SAUCEPAN.
* En helflaska tequila - A BOTTLE OF TEQUILA.
* Sex burkar ljust öl, helst det mexikanska Corona. - 6 BOTTLES OF THE MEXICAN BEER CORONA (PREFERABLY).
* 5 torkade ancho-pepparfrukter - 5 DRIED ANCHO-PEPPERS (? THEY ARE THE BIG DARK BROWN-RED ONES - CAN BE REPLACED WITH DARK RED CHILI POWDER)
* 1 chipotle-peppar - 1 CHIPOTLE PEPPER.
* 3 birdseye-pepparfrukter - 3 BIRDSEYE PEPPERS
* 4 jalapeno-pepparfrukter - 4 JALAPEÑOS
* Baconfett (eller olja) att steka i. - BACON FAT (TO FRY IN).
* 10 stora vitlöksklyftor, grovt hackade. - 10 BIG GARLIC CLOVES.
* 5 kilo oxkött, skuret i centimeterstora tärningar. - 5 KILOGRAMS OX MEAT, CUT IN CUBES OF 1x1 CENTIMETERS.
* En halv kopp mjöl. - HALF A CUP OF FLOUR.
* En kopp chilipulver. - 1 CUP CHILI POWDER.
* Två koppar mörk oxbuljong. - 2 CUPS DARK OX BROTH.
* 2 matskedar spiskummin. - 2 TABLESPOONS CUMIN
* 2 matskedar oregano. - 2 TABLESPOONS OREGANO
* 2 matskedar malda korianderfrön. - 2 TABLESPOONS CRUSHED CORIANDER SEEDS
* 1/2 matsked socker. - HALF A TABLESPOON SUGAR
* Salt, efter smak. Börja försiktigt! - SALT AS NEEDED
* Lite grovt majsmjöl, masa harina. - SOME CORNFLOUR, MASA HARINA

That took like half an hour to translate. Might be some minor mistakes.

Edit: The Tequila seemed to be mostly for drinking in between the steps of the recipe :D I told you it was the best chili around.
Edit 2: I'm gonna try and translate the recipe so it's semi-doable at least. It will take some time.

OK since this recipe is translated by me and it doesn't seem to have a proper name I'm gonna call it The Throat Fuck Chili (well actually it's called the NORTH TEXAS RED). Cuz that's what I'd call a good chili. Also the chili seems to involve a great amount of drinking.

Throat Fuck Chili - for 20 people, or 10 chili lovers (fat asses).

Notes before starting:
It can take up to like 3 hours. You'll get very drunk.

You'll need:
A BIG BLACK CAULDRON OR SAUCEPAN OR WHATEVER YOU GET THE IDEA
A FRYING PAN
A SMALL SAUCEPAN
A BOTTLE OF TEQUILA (OR MORE)
6 BOTTLES OF THE MEXICAN BEER CORONA (PREFERABLY)
5 DRIED ANCHO-PEPPERS
1 CHIPOTLE PEPPER.
3 BIRDSEYE PEPPERS
4 JALAPEÑOS
BACON FAT (TO FRY IN).
10 BIG GARLIC CLOVES.
5 KILOGRAMS OX MEAT, CUT IN CUBES OF 1x1 CENTIMETERS.
HALF A CUP OF FLOUR.
1 CUP CHILI POWDER.
2 CUPS DARK OX BROTH.
2 TABLESPOONS CUMIN
2 TABLESPOONS OREGANO
2 TABLESPOONS CRUSHED CORIANDER SEEDS
HALF A TABLESPOON SUGAR
SALT AS NEEDED
SOME CORNFLOUR, MASA HARINA (FOR THICKENING IN THE END)

1. Enjoy a glass of Tequila before starting. Play a Hank Williams CD to get into the spirit of things.

2. Cut and clean the dry ancho-peppers. Boil them in the saucepan with cover on for about 15 minutes. Then remove from heat and put aside for later.

3. Cut and clean the rest of the peppers. Put them in water. Put aside for later. Don't boil or anything, just leave them as they are.

4. Take another glass of Tequila, now it's time for business. (Yes these "drink tequila" steps are actual steps of the recipe).

5. Fry the garlic in the frying pan until soft and brown, put it in the cauldron.

6. Increase the heat for the frying pan and put in the meat. (1x1 cm cubes, 1 cm is like the size of an icon on your desktop... at higher resolutions). Fry all sides. Put in the cauldron.

7. Mix flour and chili powder. Not the cornflour, that's for later. Toss it over the meat in the cauldron.

8. Remove peppers from water. Squash the boiled ancho-peppers. Take all the pepper and put it in the cauldron with the meat. Save the water you had the peppers in!

9. Pour the beer, ox broth and the water you had the peppers in into the cauldron until the liquids it covers the meat. Start boilin'!

10. Drink up any remaining beer and take a glass of tequila for good measure.

11. Add all the spices- oregano, cumin, crushed coriander seeds.

12. Stir often! Drink some more Tequila.

13. Boil until the meat falls apart. It should take about two to three hours.

14. Add the cornflour to thicken the chili.

15. Finish the Tequila.

16. Remove any fat from the surface of the chili and remove from heat.

And remember; NO BEANS IN A REAL CHILI!!!

Enjoy!

Hmmm...vodka sounds like it'd be worth trying.

Thanks for the recipe Phanto! Unfortunately, I WOULD add beans to either of those:heh: I don't think I've ever had Ox meat (which is surprising considering the wide variety of meats I HAVE eaten), and I don't know if it's even available stateside, but I'll look into it. I'm sure it could be easily substituted with beef or (even better) deer. I think I'll see what I can do with it this weekend.

i dont know much about cooking chilli, but before even reading that recipe i was gonna say ADD BEER! i add a little bit of beer to pretty much all my beef recipes, it adds an unusual but awesome flavour..

edit: i learnt that from my daddy who is an alcoholic lol!

It's actually true, beer in chili is always awesome. It does enhance the flavor without making it taste like beer. I've seen so many variations on recipes such as when to put the beer in, what kind of beer (i prefer something fucking dark for some bold-ass flavor).

Also, at Snake Mountain, one of the bandmates roomies is a pretty much full on alcoholic and he adds beer to everything. However, he makes some of the most bitchin' meals ever.
