I saw this before a few years ago, but they had an updated show in the dead of night yesterday on the Discovery Channel of The Palms constructions in Dubai ... for those not in the know, here is a website ... enjoy

http://www.thepalm.ae/index.html

they are also, building a similar structure, 2.5 miles out into sea made of man made islands that when done will look like the continents and eventually resemble the earth when viewed from space ... 3mil - 35mil per island to buy ... with nothing built on it

I have to look for the indoor skiing venue they recently built in Dubai, complete with ski lift ... in the middle of the fucking 125 degree desert !!!

hahha ... that might be true, but the pure scope of this project and the fact that they are trying to pull it off in about 6 years flat is amazing.

quite frankly, towelheads or not, although all the engineering is all European, I have yet to see anything this ambitious in the states.

these fuckers at ground zero can't figure out what to do with a square plot for over 2 years now

22,500m² covered with real snow all year round – (equivalent to 3 football fields)
Temperature maintained at a comfortable -1º to -2º

85 meters high (approximately 25 stories) and 80 meters wide
5 different runs of varying difficulty and length, longest run of 400 meters

ok, the point of this thread is I would like to see the US come up with some ambitious engineering or construction project for once ... I have not seen anything truely awe inspiring since like ... hmm ... the invention of the skyscraper ... oh wait ... we did get the mall in Minnesota

it's just not practical though!

where would you put something crazy in the U.S.? why would you?

it is more about engineering and pride then anything else ... to attract tourism to certain areas of the country ... to revitalize a stagnant economy ...

this is where we fail slowly as a nation, our future vision is severly lacking and stagnant.

The problem is that *much* of the U.S. is already vastly developed. This ain't exactly a 3rd-world nation here, you know? Who's gonna want to tear down and wreck an entire area (with its own peoples, history, etc., mind you) just to build something shiny & new?

Oh right, a fucking towelhead would. :tickled:

oh come on ... you know that is not true ...
there is vast amounts of land in this country that could have something amazing built.
I am not talking doing it in densly populated urban areas like where we live ...

the densely populated urban areas are that way for a reason, btw.

who the fuck wants to live, or visit the middle of nowhere? the allure of those places is because they're not densely populated.

moreover, it's silly to compare an oil baron/tycoon from the middle east to anyone or anything in this country. For starters, they have plenty of wide open, undeveloped space that no one cares about for them to stroke their massive egos. the U.S. does not (see above).

One area that might help you get your wish is the rebuilding of New Orleans. Let's wait & see what happens there.

Fuck Ragheads :)

We already have MT Rushmore. The United States has bigger things to worry about than scheming up ideas to bring in tourism. When I'm paying a $1.08 at the pump, then build whatever the fuck ye please.

Last time i checked, the u.s. army wasn't totally towelhead-ed.
