prognostic said no anime but the sndtrks from Cowboy Bebop deserve mention

especially Tank! and Blue. Yoko Kanno, rather her group the seatbelts hit some of the best jazz, if not thee best jazz of the 90's and early 00's.

check out their live shit too "Earth Girls Are Easy" if you can find a recording.
fuking phenominal

yeah i guess that soundtrack is decent. yoko kanno is sort of like the dan swano of anime soundtrack music though; she composes a wide variety of music but is amateurish in each

Two soundtracks I like are Peter Gabriel's 'Passion', which is the soundtrack for 'The Last Temptation of Christ' and Ornette Coleman's soundtrack for 'The Naked Lunch'

The Passion of the Christ soundtrack IS pretty damn good, it beats the shit out of everything else I've ever heard from Peter Gabriel (such as...Genesis). Howard Shore wrote the score to Naked Lunch, btw, Ornette Coleman just played the saxophone on parts of it. Howard Shore is not one of my favorites, most of his scores for Cronenberg movies are very dreary and boring and the only other ones I'm familiar with by him are the Lord of the Rings ones, which weren't bad but repeated the same themes a bit too much (by the third movie I wanted to kill someone every time that heroic theme happened).

You are correct. However, Ornette Coleman did compose several pieces himself and he is also the credited artist of the record. I also agree with you about The Lord of the Rings, especially on the heroic theme. Though there were some moments I thought were interesting.

[edit] Actually, I noticed one thing. The movie I referenced as having Peter Gabriel's soundtrack was actually 'The Last Temptation of Christ" (1989) by Martin Scorsese not "The Passion of the Christ" by Mel Gibson.

Oh, yeah, that's what I was talking about too obviously, I just got the titles confused. The soundtrack album is called "Passion" so that further confused me. And yes, there are plenty of good parts in the LOTR soundtracks, that heroic theme just grates after a while :D
