HEy lads, here's another mix I'm working on atm (you might have read the bands blog, I linked to it in the off topic tavern).

I kinda dig the music, lots of oldschool elements combined with more modern stuff....
anyway, not about the music, but about the sound ;)

I was going for a rather modern mix that I wanted to be very thick and dense (I know, Metaltastic will call it "woolly", I was going for a kinda Devil Driver type of tone on the guits ;) ).

this is the very first mix, no automation done yet, I still have to reamp leadguitars and do some other stuff....but this already shows the general direction I think.

after the cracky drums from the last bands mixes I was going for a thick and punchy drumsound on this one.

Wasteland

since I know that the guitarist is also browsing this forum:
Matze, feel free to chime in

This sounds great , i like the band aswell . Drums are tits , what are they ? Guitar tone is killer .
The WOOoooOOo part is nice , it could be a little louder if you ask me

Damn, you TOTALLY nailed the Devildriver guitar sound on TLKW IMO - great job! I gotta be honest though, that opening snare roll sounds horribly triggered, or maybe he's just playing it as single-strokes...but yeah, I don't find the guitars too wooly; if anything, they're a bit too smooth for me, not enough Rectifier bark, but they're certainly fit well!

Also, I feel the snare might be just a bit too poppy (or maybe just too loud) - then again, I found the snare on TLKW to be too poppy to the point of being painful when wearing headphones!

thanks.

haha, there is no sample/triggering on the beginning roll (zero!). that_'S just how the snare sounds ;)

it's my Yamaha sd6455 with powerstroke 3...really easy to mix

WOW, in that case, amazing job! The usual 2x 57's into API? But yeah, the poppyness still hurts my fragile ears :erk:

thanks. yep, post prosessing with MH CS.

on the louder parts there's a tiny bit of FatCity blended in (not much as you can tell from the transition between the totally sample-free rolls and the augmented hard hits in the beginning)

Perfect dude!

I don't know if you've tried this or how well it would work, but maybe if you automated the volume of the bottom snare mic down a bit for that intro roll it would sound a little better.

This is a pretty br00tal mix. The guitars sound very good. The high end is nice and present without being at all painful.

These are some great non-sampled drum sounds.

I want more kick and a little more clarity out of the overheads. The tom and snare do it for me.

+1 to what everyone else said about the snare roll in the intro section.
