i remember Helms' objection to a MLK holiday for the reasons stated: no other single individual has been so elevated and revered in this country to have their own holiday and the suspicion of MLK's involvement with decidedly UN-American communist organizations should have been enough to put an indefinite hold on honoring him in such a way.

First of all "egalitarian" means you know according to dictionary "Affirming, promoting, or characterized by belief in equal political, economic, social, and civil rights for all people." Pretty much ever Western nation, including ours is founded on principles of egalitarianism.

Now, "collectivist" means "The principles or system of ownership and control of the means of production and distribution by the people collectively, usually under the supervision of a government."

Now I hate to break the news to you (and your delusions) but it's impossible for the United States to be collectivist. No wonder you liked Jesse Helms. The idiot barely knew anything about the world.

First of all. egalitarianism has nothing to do with socialism. Have you bothered to read the Declaration of Independence? You know maybe this part:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness."

Oh my God! It says "all men are created equal" !!!! The founding fathers were commies!!!

Seriously though, if Sue wants to put her opinions out there then they become up for discussion. I don't agree that Jesse Helms is a great man in anyway but I've elcted not to mail her a pipe bomb. No sleep lost on either end I'm sure.
