there isn't a third stage, and you only get payed if you are on the main stage. the best thing about the ozzfests was the main stage, well for '04 atleast. priest, sabbath, slayer, and BLS to me was a killer show especially judas priest.JoeVice said:

Opeth is not too good for Ozzfest. Not only would they have got more exposure as a main stage act on Ozzfest, but they would have made more money because as we all know, it's all about the benjamins with Opeth nowadays. They could have played for hundreds of thousands of people but they chose to play some crappy secondary tour that nobody I even know went to, but we were at Ozzfest and we had a great time.
Sure it may cost a signing up fee, but what doesn't? Everything you sign up for costs money. There is a phrase "pays for itself over time" when you buy certain things. You pay to get on, then make the money from doing the touring and selling merchandise, but Mikael is too quick to hold onto a few bucks and go the cheap route of playing a smaller, free tour.
Yes, they do pay the bands. It's not like you pay to get on and then never make a buck. That's just an ignorant thought of someone too bigheaded to ask about the operation and take an easier, crappier route.
In an attempt to make this not sound like a opeth bashing post, I'll say this: I WUBBLE OPETH!
And I own all their CDs. But Mike's gotta drop this whole alpha bandhead thing... I mean I watched the Opeth documentary on their DVD and the Martin's could barely speak english cause Mike never lets them talk, he's always doing the talking!

Opeth doesn't really fit in with Ozzfest. They're a totally different vibe and spirit than the type of bands that play there. Hell, I was surprised to see In Flames were playing Ozzfest, and Opeth are even more far removed from that whole deal.
Plus remember Mikael's apparent disillusionment with the "metal scene these days" or whatever he was saying in some interview I saw the other day...
And plus Opeth have no reason to play on some big bill event like that with a short crappy little set. They're not trying to skyrocket to success by latching onto the existing scene, they've already got their niche.

If The 'Peth plyed at Ozzfest then it'd be 1 or 2 songs max and all the Atreyu fans would be like "These guys suck, songs are only supposed to last 3:30 gaddammit!" The pit would then be filled by the blood of suicide-committing fans

well last time i heard bands that are on the main stage don't have to pay to sign on for the main stage. what if sharon invited opeth to play on the second stage? wouldn't that explain the quote? iron maiden were paid to be on ozzfest, yes they got fucked up in the end, but they were still paid 200,000 a night (or something like that) to be on ozzfest. besides it doesn't matter opeth shouldn't be on festivals anyway. a proper opeth concert would have them play for an hour and a half, nothing less.

Even if Opeth went to Ozzfest, it'd still be no reason to blow $50 on tickets. I'd pay $50 for a 3-hour Opeth set or something, but not for however little set they'd have there.
Last year's Ozzfest had Maiden, and I almost considered going for them, but it'd be a ripoff. Ozzfest sucks, plain and simple.

Yeah, the nice seats here were something like.... $90, I believe? I dunno, I never looked into it that much. $50 just to see Iron Maiden is insane, $90 is even worse.
But I remember the lunch lady at my old school works/worked security at Ozzfest, and she said she would hook us up with autographs and stuff from any band we wanted. It's been over a year and still nothing.

yeah that sucks i would kick that lunch lady's ass. i got to ozzfest at 11 and after soilwork i started to move around and i saw a booth and they had a crap load of cd's up for sale that were signed by the guys there. i'm guessing they were left overs from when the band members were there signing shit, but they were rather expensive. if i remember correctly rob zombie and zakk wylde's signed cd's cost as much as the lawn seats! so if i were you, keep bitchin at that lunch lady until you get your shit!

Well she was at my old middle school, I don't see her anymore. Hell, I don't even remember what she looks like.
