Opeth songs?

Argh... I wish all the people who just refuse to listen to music with harsh vocals would just DIE! Honestly, it's bullshit... can any of you think of another form of vocals that would convey as much aggression and pure emotion? Didn't think so! It's not "screeching" or "yelling" (I'd like to see if you sound like Akerfeldt when you're in pain or angry!), it's singing, plain and simple!

That is not singing its growling! Its just my opinion and in it I hope people like you die! I hate jerks like you always acting like everyone elses opinion is shit. That "singing" sounds like they are takin a shit. Those growls that you here in opeth and some katatonia are the uglies sounds I have ever heard in my entire life and im ashamed to be a musician to know that people actually play good music along with that singing. You know goddamn well that if they were SINGING clearly and bueatifully the damn song would be 10x as good! But if you think that growling is better than thats fine its your opinion! Do what you like. Oh yea, ever see lighting and thunder when its snowing? I see that right now.

Holy shit, I never picked that up before. Nicely spotted. I'm gonna have to go back and listen to read all my Opeth CDs, and check whether this was the same for all the albums. I know Still Life was a concept work, but it makes sense for Mike to use this formula throughout all the others. Fuck man, you've just given me a revelation.

the way I see it, the growls are in the character of 'godhead' (the evil side of the guy the story is about) and the clean vocals are from the normal guy - some kind of schizophrenia going on, so to speak - or sides of one person represented through different vocals.

for anyone that doesn't know the story of still life, its about a disfigured guy that gets hung after murdering the girl he came back to get from the village he was thrown out of for being disfigured. I think.
