i really like opeth, but what cd is their heavist? with less prog parts are more death metal parts?

My Arms, Your Hearse and Deliverance are the most straightforward metal albums they've done. Blackwater Park is a little more proggy than those two, but it has a lot of their best, heaviest riffs. Orchid and Morningrise are folky rather than proggy, and they aren't really heavy albums, but very good, with Morningrise being the better of the two. The vocal approach is different than on every album since, and the song structures are looser. You can skip everything else.

Somehow I'm amazed that there could be a single prevailing opinion in a thread of this sort.

Mikael claims that Deliverance is their heaviest effort. Personally i don't listen to it much except for the song Deliverance and Masters Apprentice. Also, just like whoever mentioned above, don't listen to Opeth for heaviness.

Ya, MAYH in terms of less progressive and more growls.
Blackwater Park has lots of growls as well, although it's a lot more progressive. Also, Heir Apparent from watershed is one of their most brutal songs...the rest of the album isn't in the same vein but i think you'll like that song.

Watershed has some very heavy parts. His growls on that album are in a different style from previous albums.

In overall heaviness, though, Watershed is definitely their least heavy.

edit: besides Damnation - but that doesn't count.

i really liked my arms your hearse

but i liked orchid even more. i has mostly screamed/growled vocals.

any similiar to orchid?

oh and btw. before this thread i only had blackwater park, damnation, and watershed. so i obviously hadnt dug into them much.
