Opeth

:(

Okay, by 'worst', I mean it's their weakest

Do you really consider it that different from Morningrise? That album seems to me to have pretty much the same energy level.

As weird as it may be, I've preferred their first two albums over the rest for a long time now. I don't necessarily consider them better than the others (though "In the Mist She Was Standing" and "Black Rose Immortal" are definitely two of their best songs), but they're a lot more subtle, and with the subtlety seems to come more atmosphere.

Funnily enough, the only ones that I really like anymore are the earliest two.

Orchid and Morningrise are Opeth's two most similar albums. I wouldn't consider either to be all that heavy. MR seems to be tighter, and the riffs of higher quality, but Orchid has some charms with the interludes and quirky transitions.

At least these albums aren't so obviously based on outside influences. On every other release it's pretty clear where the band's cues are coming from.

i don't think any of opeth's albums are particularly similar, other than the general lack of songwriting ability which was of course most prominent on orchid and to a slightly lesser extent morningrise

Somewhat similar to Opeth in the fact that they do heavy and light parts would be Akercocke. There heavy parts are much more death/black metal oriented than Opeth, with the very undecipherable growls/screams. He has a great voice for singing and screaming. Nothing beats Opeth imo though.

Also similar in the fact that they can't write a fucking solid song to save their goddamned lives.

I've noticed that. There are no opeth songs that keep my attention all the way through. I can put on an album and enjoy it but it doesn't really grab me.

I dont care if you guys dont like it, I'm just trying to suggest something the guy who started it may enjoy. People love or hate Opeth, its always been like that. Lets not turn this into another typical Opeth thread.

ozzman, orchid is great. yes i said, it's great. i enjoy listening to when i post on here, or whenjog in the park, or maybe even when i'm taking a nap.

deliverance is unquestionably the heaviest. still life has heavy moments but most of the album is acoustic. morning rise is also terrific. hell, all of their albums kick ass...
