Ours does grow very fast. It also gets watered regularly (automatic sprinklers RULE) and fertilized every month or two (I think it's two, but I don't keep track). We grew it from seed from a blend that was made here in the Valley, so it does very well in the heat. We don't bother with rye grass, so he gets to take the winters off.

Ahh, I don't water my yard, it's kind of a waste of water in these parts. Coupled with the fact that the local water company gouges people pretty badly. I can see having to do it down in Arizona though. Otherwise, you would have just dirt and no lawn to speak of.
