I am an idiot... actually got up out of bed at 4:45 just to buy my son a train set at Gurnee Mills. (Actually tried starting a line around midnight, but got chased away by the rent-a-cops.)

probably super cheap. do you guys have that up there? day after thanksgiving has huge deals from 5am to 11am usually. not the thanksgiving part, but your day when they have huge sales?

Thanksgiving happens in October for us, and there's no special sales or anything, as its pretty much Halloween merchandise at the time. The big cheap sales are Boxing Day, which over the past few years has extended into Boxing week and Boxing month. I'm just waiting for some store to declare "Boxing year".

you don't miss much then. there's probably huge lines now at the stores. that sounds like great fun. usually they show some footage on the news about people acting insane at a store. they have a sale that's "while supplies last," so everyone will bumrush that area and stampede. bunch of soccer mom's beating each other up to get a good deal. is it worth the half off sale? $40 off something?

Was there something special about this particulare train set?

Guess it was just that this one was big enough for my son - who will be five in February - to set up and operate on his own.

Wasn't a total wash, though - found another toy for him (talking Lightning McQueen) and something for my cousin.

I actually bought my own Christmas gift, and should get it on Monday - a USB turntable. Cool - should make my digitizing records so much easier.

My son got the talking Lightening McQueen for his birthday. He's already moved on to other toys, but man, that is a cool toy!
