Overkill Essentials

for what it's worth though the "general consensus" this time around is that overkill has gone the extra mile for this album and although they've been "consistently good" for ages, this is getting "what the hell suddenly happened haha buy this guys" reviews all over the place which is not usually the case

although i really agree that lurch's modus operandi is "GUYS DID YOU HEAR THE NEW SLAYER? ITS SO COOL. SO COOL. GONNA FORGET ABOUT IT NEXT WEEK BUT THIS SLAYS MOTHERFUCKERS."

yeah, see!!!

the new slayer sucks

I know most of you will hate this ... but those that followed the band from the early days will find this refreshing ... its certainly head and shoulders above Christ Illusion and certainly anything after SITA.

its not a perfect record even for fanboys like me ... but then again none of theirs are except RIB of course which has no fillers ... but this one certainly surprised me.

yeah see i usually don't do so well in detecting sarcasm in statements that are unquestionably true

Actually, the new Overkill CD is the only CD by the band I've felt compelled to buy since Years of Decay. Aurel's occasionally overzealous initial reactions to old school releases aside, this CD warrants a listen from anyone whose ever had any interest in the band.

but also, how was that brief Slayer writeup hype? or overzealous. i think its pretty spot on.

go listen to the new Overkill punks :Smokin:

It seems the Overkill discs is being praised everywhere you look.

its beyond praise ... its like an unanimous circle jerk and rightly so.

this thing is massive. and what's great about is that usually these type of "instant" releases play themselves out quick after a few spins but this one has some whacky classic staying power already ...
there are very few discs out there like this ... and most came out in the 80's and 90's.

what's amazing to me is that they pulled off this stunt so late in their career.

They have quite a few albums and one of my friends recently gave ALL of them to me. Which ones are must listens? I don't believe my friend when he says they ALL are awesome. I listened to 'I Hear Black' and wasn't impressed, but I dig the shit out of 'Under the Influence'.

Hey, he hasn't been posting lately. Don't tell me he's finally gone, nor that it's the reason things have been slow around here....

i'll have to say this is by far the best thrash album ive heard in awhile. albums like this are few and far between, no matter if there a new band or a older band learning some new tricks. :OMG:
