On the topic, there's a rock bar in Auckland with DJs and a dance floor complete with stripper pole. They play a lot of nu metal and other popular stuff. Live bands play in the smaller upstairs bar, so I can't really complain about whatever helps keep a venue running. The layout is daft though - the upstairs is at street level, but to get to it you have to go downstairs, walk past/through the dance floor to a door near the DJ, and up another set of stairs.
