Panopticon/Oceanic > any Opeth release

Listened to Oceanic yesterday afternoon for a while, and I came to the same conclusions as before. I'd like it a whole lot more without the hardcore-like screaming. Awesome snare sound, though.

Reasons why this thread is pathetic and blows:

1)The title of the thread itself is pretentious and stupid.

2)Opeth and Isis are completely different bands, Opeth is Prog rock/Death metal, Isis is melodic Post-hardcore or something like that.

3)Opeth pwns Isis in every possible aspects, like: more VARIATION in the songwriting, better singing(and growling too), more technical and dynamic, less repetitive, etc.

4)imo

You say that Opeth and Isis are completely different bands implying they shouldn't be compared, but then you directly compare them in the next line. You also couldn't be more wrong in saying that Isis is less repetitive and dynamic than Opeth.

Celestial is definitely on par with the others, at least

Oh, and I don't like the vocals but I tolerate them. They just aren't necessary at all. I'm so glad they reduced the amount of singing on the new album - a good decision from the band

people don't realise Steve Wilsons vocals don't fit metal riffs either

it actually depends on the music and Opeth punches in a really heavy riff from time to time; having angelic-like vocals over that all the time would also be like having Daffy Duck singing over the music :Smug:

Old Man Gloom imo has a lot of tracks that totally slay anything Isis have done. The Volcano being a prime example.

Isis is far more repetitive than Opeth, there is no doubt about it, are you kidding me? Opeth's music has guitar solos, more complex riffs, a lot of tempo-changes, acoustic guitars...while Isis songs are full of repetition and full of simplistic parts, have you even heard Isis ftlog?...and i compared both bands just to show that Opeth is far superior in terms of musical quality and to show WHY they can't be compared to Isis...you are angry because Opeth is indeed better, you should get over it imo.

I know legions of people that think Isis is far superior, and believe it or not, there's no objective meter saying that opeth is better. Regardless, I don't think Isis have anything as repetitive as "The Grand Conjuration," so your statement isn't entirely true.

I don't find Isis repetitive at all. At least not any more repetitive than Opeth. Even if a particular piece of music is repeated, Isis add something to it or tweak it the next time through to make it more interesting. Before venturing into this thread, I never thought to compare Isis and Opeth. There are certain periods where I much rather listen to Oceanic and/or Panopticon over any Opeth album. And then there are times where I'd rather listen to any Opeth album (not including Deliverance and Damnation) over Oceanic and Panopticon. Both bands offer something completely different. That being said, I've listened to Isis more over the past couple years than I have Opeth. But when asked, I'd probably list Opeth higher on my list of favorite bands. To me, Opeth are more hit and miss. With most of their albums, there are a few songs off of each one that I don't really care for too much. But with Isis, Oceanic and Panopticon just flow together perfectly from beginning to end.
