Pantera, maybe the best band in the world

CFH and VDOP were really strong albums. Wasn't a huge fan of the later stuff. To be honest, Dime's tone kind of makes me wince, and I never became a massive Pantera fanboy. That being said, I always was happy about their success during metal's rough years.

BEST BAND EVER!

I will never see another band more live than i have seen Pantera. I think i went to like 10-12 of there shows over the years.

I honestly can't think of another metal band since them that would sell out stadiums back to back nights, within minutes. While there cd's are great the live show was just amazing and really something special.

I firmly support all things Pantera. I went to 9 of their concerts. Far beyond driven hits like it weighs 10,000 lbs.

I went to a metal festival here in the UK some time around 1999-2001, Metallica were headlining...

Anyways, I really wanted to go see Pantera but the friend I went with absolutely hated them so we made a deal that we wouldn't watch them if I didn't have to go see Marilyn Manson, whom he liked.

First and only opportunity to have ever seen them live :(

Cowboys and Vulgar are definitely in my top 50 albums of all time. I tend to hate shouty/screamy vocals but Anselmo did it very well.

The first time I heard these guys, I thought they were a relatively modern band. Definitely 21st century. I was so blown away. When I found out that CFH was released in 1990, I was absolutely floored. So unbelievably ahead of their time. Cowboys From Hell, Vulgar Display, and Far Beyond Driven, sound SO aggressive, they sound more aggressive than 98% of the metal bands I hear today.

i love all their albums. the first three are amazing of course but i think TGSTK is very under-rated and mislabeled as a "fluke"

it's actually really really awesome imo. great lyrics, great sound, great vocals, great music... aka great album

Sup?:D
them and metallica are the aces of modern metal in the last 25 years. pantera def rules. in the late 90s it was "uncool" to like pantera and i had to put up with a lot of shit with the numetal kids

They had a lot of history together ;)

Pantera is awesome!!! The 3 first albums are great. And they play so tight that it sounds Protooled all the way (beat detective, slip edit gayness)
And i would say that 99% of all metal bands today couldn't record albums like that tracked to tape, with long takes perfectly executed!!

Honestly, out of 9 of their albums, only 3 of them I can listen to from start to finish.
I don't care for any of their 80s stuff at all and Far Beyond and Reinventing the Steel I think are just really mediocre with the exception of a few songs.
That being said, I still remember in 2004 when I first heard The Great Southern Trendkill (I actually listened to that before Cowboys). The opening title track just tore my head off, I'd never heard anything like that before in my life.
The amount of aggression in the first half of the song, and the man, when it kicks into that kinda bluesy bit, that there defines FUCKING ATTITUDE in heavy metal guitar playing.

While I don't ever really play much Pantera on guitar anymore, Dimebag definitely had a big impact on me and my guitar playing.

they have a couple that aren't absolute masterpieces like Reinventing the Steel, or The Great Southern Trendkill, but to my ears these still sound good and were imo some of the best records to come out in the respective time frame.

Actually, its funny you mention those two albums. Reinventing the Steel is a terrible album (their worst) and Trendkill is their best album. Floods has the best outro ever. not even in metal. any genre. best outro. anyone disagree?? didnt think so.

I don't think Reinventing the still is terrible... like at all.

My fave is still Far Beyond Driven, gotta say.

In case you can't tell by my user name, they're my most favoritest band ever! :D
