Your favourite bass tones?

Some that I really like:

Akercocke - Deeds that go undone, words that go unspoken
Pantheon I - The Wanderer and his Shadow
Sentenced - Most stuff (but especially Crimson if I remember correctly)
Tool - Lateralus
Messhuggah - Most of the stuff
Moonspell - Darkness and Hope
Secrets of the Moon - Carved in Stigmata Wounds and The Exhibitions
Tulus - Mysterion and Evil 1999
Fields of the Nephilim - The Nephilim and Elizium

Often I'm not paying that much attention to how the bass actually sounds (except when it's soloed) but generally I'm happy if I can hear the bass clearly and there's some lowend goodness. For example I'm not a fan of the Spiral Architect bass sound (althouth the playing is awesome!).

Standout sounds or moments for me:
Decapitated - The Negation... listen to Three-Dimensional Defect at 2:38.
Blotted Science - Machinations of Dementia (Alex Webster... woooooh!!!)
... also Alex' sound on Live Cannibalism.
Marcus Miller - I basically only know Youtube live vids from this guy, but LOVE his tone. Deep, fat, awesome.

Apart from that, the absolutely biggest bass sound I've ever heard was on a live vid from Korn, where Fieldy starts a song with some solo bass stuff... I can hardly imagine how that must have sounded in reality, I bet there were some brown notes in there. :D

And I just came to the conclusion that most of my fav bass tones (where I actually NOTICE that I like the bass sound) are on live recordings.

Tool - 10,000 Days
Mudvayne - LD 50
Pantera - Far Beyond Driven
Mnemic - Anything before Passenger
Marcus Miller - M2
Incubus - Science
Soilwork - Stabbing the Drama
Rage Against the Machine - Self Titled

Pantera - Cowboys From Hell - All songs
Metallica - ReLoad - Devils Dance
Ozzy Osbourne - No More Tears - All songs

Aditional bass-sounds:

Testament - Formation Of Damnation
Annihilator - Set The World On Fire

Pantera - I Can't Hide

By far my favorite bass tone of all time.

I'm not at all surprised to see the Tool and Faith No More love in this thread. Anything with Justin Chancellor or Billy Gould is pretty much guaranteed to have great bass tone. :kickass:

Only ones that stnd out in my memory are:
Korn - Life is Peachy/Issues
Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction
Death - Human ( the mix lets the fretless come through real nice. )
Queensryche - Empire/Promised Land

I love that clicky attack most of all but I also love hearing a well played fretless or a Chapman Stick. I know there's other albums out there with great bass tones I like but I can't recall them at the moment.

Among my favourite are :
- early Manowar, such as Sign Of The Hammer (yeah :D)
- Iron Maiden - Powerslave, or maybe Somewhere In Time
- various recent Overkill records (From The Underground And Below and Killbox 13 come to my mind, but I haven't listened to the former for ages)
- Control Denied - The Fragile Art Of Existence (killer fretless tone !)
- Gojira - From Mars To Sirius (heavily distorted, but also very clear and distinct)
I also dig some Chris Squire bass tones (from Yes), though I couldn't name a song or album in particular...
