Pantera, maybe the best band in the world

Greatest metal band ever , not a single weak link . I was lucky enough to see them on the vulgar tour when I was about 18 . That night was burned indelibly on my mind for ever . RIP Dime .

Three of my defining moments as a musician are because of Pantera.
1) The first time I heard a breakdown was in "Domination"
2) I bought and starting learning guitar because of the intro/main riff on "5 Minutes Alone"
3) I finally allowed myself to say I was a "good" drummer when I could play "Becoming" the whole way through.

Still throw on their albums today (even "Reinventing" occasionally) and I'm amazed at how awesome they still are.

I found out I was a better guitarist than drummer when I tried to learn Cowboys. I only know five songs front to back, but it shows a lot of the time in just about any riff. This summer I bought a Randall rh100 and set it underneath the pantera poster on my wall, and looked dime in the eye. I said, "look dime, I've got a randall now, just like you." And nearly fucking cried. I was eight years old again, happier than ever.

Listening to Pantera´s music for the first time in my youth was like a strong punch straight to the jaw, heavy as fuck, there´s a limited list of bands i can give this description.

Pantera (after cowboys from hell) are the most amazing band out there.
I mean "fuck" slayer they have one good riff everybody is talking about, Pantera has like one million awsome riffs which are all better then raining blood ;)

Listen to the "new wave of american metal" or metalcore. You hear Pantera in every band....and dont stop here. You hear pantera in a lot of modern hardcore bands too.
Like it or not, Pantera made breakdowns big

Slayer influence>Pantera influence

By a long fucking way

Pantera is awesome!!! The 3 first albums are great. And they play so tight that it sounds Protooled all the way (beat detective, slip edit gayness)
And i would say that 99% of all metal bands today couldn't record albums like that tracked to tape, with long takes perfectly executed!!

.. Metal Magic, Projects In The Jungle and I Am The Night? :heh:

Dont play much Pantera today, but I was a fanboy since I was 13. Knew all the songs and solos by heart at 15. My second guitar ever was a Washburn Dimebag signature neck-through! :D I think it was around 1995.

Very good musicianship, and very good songs! Too bad Phil Anselmo screwed up by being a drugged drama queen at the end...

I am hella proud to be able to call Dime a friend. As most of you know Dime was the reason my first band got signed. Anyway ....

Anyone who shit talks Pantera is piece of shit, I dont care what anyone says about any other band but if you shit talk Pantera you are fucking moron. Pantera was the ONLY metal band to keep the flag flying high throughout the entire period of Nirvana infused pop / punk / alt bullshit. Quality musicians who together made musical magic. The 4 of them together was like no other force on earth. I was the biggest Testament fan in the world till I went to my first Pantera concert. Pantera, Sepultura, and Prong! Nassau Colliseum, Long Island NY. They were on the Vulgar Display Of Power Tour .... FUCKING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have kicked the shit out of asshole who have talked shit about Pantera, Dime, Vinny and Rex. I have been in more fist fights over Pantera then I have been in guys gawking at my ex-wife. Now that should tell you something.

Anyone who denies that Pantera was flying the metal flag for EVERYONE in the 90s is a fucking idiot. LONG LIVE FUCKING PANTERA!

I AM A COWBOY FROM HELL FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and here is a little treat, the entire concert I was talking about earlier via Youtube :)

You cant open with a better song then New Level!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOBODY ... can top that live NOT ANYONE ... I have been to concerts from some of the greatest bands in the world...

Rush
Zepplin (well page / plant ... but bla bla)
GnR

NOBODY tops Pantera !!!

As another vote for the band the ONLY song I play the solo not for note in with my cover band is Cowboys From Hell, thats how much respect I have for Dime and his musical legacy. YOU CANT FUCK WITH PERFECTION!

Pantera fan here :Spin:

Huuuge fan of all records since "Cowboys from hell". Sometimes I ask myself, why the hell they sounded so tight and aggressiv! I think Vinnie Paul is fucking important for the legenary sound. He plays with such power and aaargh impact, attitude. Today I miss drummers who fucking concentrate on destroying the heads with attitude instead of playing fast boring double bass marathons.
