Parkway Drive Studio Vid

I've had the privilege of checking out Joe's place and talking to him for a minute. He has tons of monitors and likes to have many points of reference. I think he has some weird little speakers off to the side etc. The variety and quality of the monitors makes sense considering.

To anyone that hasn't... check out the Parkway Drive DVD, genuinely the most incredible metal band documentary i've ever seen. They seem like really cool guys.

Anyone else think Joe Barresi came off as a bit of a jackass?

"to me parkway drive is a cut above EVERYTHING in the genre because it doesnt sound like a bunch of dudes noodling and screaming"

and then hes like

"it takes a lot of guts to not make the same exact record that every other band in this genre makes"

wtf? and then the "the black record" comment...every time he opens his mouth i want to punch him

Agreed. To me, he just seems like a guy who doesn't know much about the metal/metalcore genre in general, and being this is probably the first metalcore band he's worked with, he thinks they are unique.

It's the same thing when older people, like my parents and family members, hear my band and say "you guys are so different to other bands out there today." But really we're not they just aren't metal fans so they've never heard the type of shit we play before.

And I honestly don't think this album will make as big of an impact on the band as the black album did for Metallica, I mean come on.

And I'm not "shitting" on the band here, just stating my opinion on Joe's opinion of PWD...... and he's dead WRONG!!!! haha

lol. It sounds fucking KILLER from the camera's mic picking up the monitors... I bet those drums are all natural, too.

FML...

=D

Yeah, I'm sure a newbie like Barresi can't be capable of picking out an element he finds unique about a band, regardless of genre. lol.

Man, just because he's a well known and respected engineer/producer doesn't mean everything he says is gonna be correct. Sure he may have picked out something in their music that HE thinks is unique, but I'm willing to bet he'd hear the same things he finds unique to PWD in a lot of other Metal bands if he listened to them.

Just saying, I don't think he listens to metal or metalcore on a regular basis so for him to say what he did is just ignorant to me. I wonder what he'd say if he heard Between the Buried and Me.

From what I've heard in the video and from other PWD albums, it's a lot of breakdowns, a lot of screaming and cool riffs but it's not really anything I haven't heard before. And I'm not saying their not good at what they do, they are, but I think Barresi's opinion on a whole genre he has little knowledge about, is pretty ignorant. I want to know what else Barressi is listening to if he thinks PWD is a "cut above every other band in the genre."

once again, no disrespect to the band.

I agree, he probably has little exposure to the genre, but I still think, even being green as he is, he's capable of picking up something he finds unique about them. We may not agree with what he finds unique, sure, but I think he's entitled to his opinion.

I don't think people should just toss away what he said completely because he's not been exposed to the genre for long. He may have some very valid reasons for what he said that we aren't aware of.

i thought the back-handed swipe at Adam D in the last seconds of the vid was unnecessary.

love Joe B's work though.... will be interesting to hear how this comes out.
