Parkway Drive Studio Vid

"They've decided not to make the same exact record that every band in this type of music make"

A rather bold claim if you ask me since what I heard from the small snippets sounds like exactly the same shit NEARLY EVERY metalcore band does these days.
And yeah I agree with Marcus, wtf is with having monitors around that belong in cheap home studios?

I noticed the same thing, my monitors are "higher end" and i have a studio in my room haha

You can buy a 5150 for $1000.00 new. In my opinion, it sounds better than a $5000.00 Diezel VH4.

It's not about price point, but about translation and honestly, if Barresi thinks those monitors are flat enough for him to monitor his mixes and make worthwhile adjustments, so be it.

On that note, where do you guys listen to music the most when you're not at your monitors? For me, it's in my car. I would say NINETY percent of music that is listened to is either on earbuds/headphones while traveling from place to place, or in someone's car CD player. If anything, I would want a pair of monitors that sound like the awesome full range system in my car. If they did, my mixes would translate to a worthwhile medium all of the time.

Just my two cents.

I agree the monitors aren't everything, it is just funny because his studio makes me look like i am recording bands with audacity and a mic from radio shack! hahah

i thought the back-handed swipe at Adam D in the last seconds of the vid was unnecessary.

love Joe B's work though.... will be interesting to hear how this come out.

+1, I loved adam D's work/mixes. Even if I were an engineer of his caliber I would feel ignorant trashing someones work (who obviously is sucessful/has a name for themselves).

But then again, that could of been a joke/poking fun. And then this all is thrown out the window

Regardless I'm very excited to hear this! :D

Dont think they were making fun of Adam D.
I would say they were making fun about themselves, and their privious albums.
Like everybody includes in the new record think that it will be a major step-up.

Cant wait to hear it!!!

"they" weren't making fun, i wasn't even referring to the band... the statement i was referring to was made by Joe B., and he wasn't "making fun" either.. it was back-handed comment about the guitars on the previous releases sounding like "mosquitoes" , and how much better his production with the band sounds even at the unmixed stage it was at, compared to the previous CD. i don't have any opinion about that myself, haven't heard either CD, but i thought it was a bit uncool for JB to be saying that he thought so on camera.

anyone recall how bent you all were when a certain band that had worked with Andy on a prior CD did pretty much that same thing on video, with their new big-shot rock producer?

it's just not called for in my opinion.

Well admittedly, I remember Jens Bogren really praising the V8's, and I see now that both of those M-Audios manage to break the $1k mark for a pair; whatever works for him of course, but I guess he really must love 'em to have both models! :loco:

At the end of the day... this is JOE FUCKING BARESSI! He can use whatever the fuck he wants and still get my respect!

It looked to me like they were mid-way through a conversation, and to base an opinion on a mere snippet isn't very sensible imho. The band themselves seemed to be down with the mosquito sentiment.

And it was filmed on camera, but he probably had no idea it would be made public.

god forbid someone dislikes the production on the last album
adam d isnt going to cry himself to sleep just because joe baressi doesn't like the guitar tone.

anyway, not a fan of pwd, big fan of joe b's work. interested to hear how the final mix ends up sounding.

yeah yeah yeah... drew, gareth.. i love Joe's work too, got tons of respect for him, and i'm not familiar at all with that band... but i don't care what the context was. i haven't been around as long as Joe, and yet i know not the take shots like that on cam... bands ALWAYS post that shit these days... and yeah, i'm sure Adam can take it, but that doesn't make it any less of a careless cheap shot, or any less NOT the classiness i'd except from a guy with Joe's pedigree.

i mean, you been around for a minute and you just know... you just know not to do that sort of thing, irrespective of the circumstances. how is it i know that? how is it i know that and i haven't been around as long or worked with nearly as many bands?

relax drew... i gather you know or have met him and think he is a swell guy... and i'm sure he is a swell guy, who just happened to get caught out in a minor awkward moment on video, running his mouth a little bit... not the end of the world, but he can at the very least expect to be called out on the poor "on-cam" etiquette a few times.

Gareth... it's done, faux paus memorialized, noted by others, and life moves on.... everybody still thinks Joe is great, including me and most likely Adam as well, but it was worth mentioning, if for no other reason for the edification of yourself and the other forum members who aspire to be producers, and i'm reasonably sure that Joe himself... provided he's not a total jackass, and i'm wagering he's not... would admit it wasn't his finest moment, regardless of how minor the swipe he took was.

Aye, I agree... it was a bit of a tactless thing to say. But at the end of the day, he's as human as you or I. I did meet him, and he is a swell guy. We went out and ate some food, and he got me completely trashed - what's more swell than that?

Within a few minutes of meeting him we were making some pretty unsavoury jokes (the kind you see around the Sneap forum on a daily basis) and so I just figure cut him some slack, not because he is who he is... but because it's the same kind of thing we see day in and day out.

But I'm happy if you disagree; tis what makes the world get spunky!!

Anyway... yeah. I'm interested in how it will come out. I think Joe has done some replacement in the past, so I'm not 100% sure the drums will be completely natural. But it looks like it's gonna sound good.

I noticed those monitors as well. Then I recalled seeing an advertisement for M-Audio featuring Joe Barresi.

But I suppose it is possible that he actually uses those monitors ... and it's not just for show.

At any rate - cool video. Thanks to the OP for taking the time to link us to it.
Take care!

Scott

yeah, he has his own sample set for BFD/BFD2, and Toontrack just ported it over as well.

Aye. I use the Baressi pack. Produced by Platinum Samples, who also did the Andy John's pack and the Jim Scott pack. I have all three. I used to rely on them, but nowadays I've got a lot of choice, so I don't tend to go for them straight away.

I prefer recording a real kit if I can.

Yknow everyone and their dog has been telling me to get his sample pack.

Anyway it'll be interesting to hear what sort of fruit this collaboration bears. The backhanded Adam D diss at the end was in poor taste maybe, but it's easy to get caught up in the moment in the studio, and there just happened to be a camera capturing that one. They have to talk up the record for the fans after all.
