What about using something else to boost the gain, not like the tube screamers as they cut some of the bass anyway, but the sd-1 or something?

Can't speak for the sd-1 but my double drive od pedal does not cut as much bass as the tube screamer does. It sounds good with the rockmaster with its gain pot pushed in. Its quite a bit thicker this way then with the gain pot pulled out and no od pedal.
