Perfect albums

I actually did the opposite. Many of my favorites CDs have songs I don't care for. So, I didn't list those here. Instead, what I listed are discs that do not have a single song I don't enjoy.

Zod

That is exactly what I did. If I wanted to list my favorite cds then more Megadeth, Slayer and others would have been listed. I put down cds that I love EVERY song. For example, Guns 'n Roses did not make the list because I HATE Mr Brownstone from Appetite from Destruction....therefore it does not make a perfect album.

If the criteria of a "perfect album" for you consists of an album where you enjoy every single song, by all means have at it. Utilizing that criteria I'm sure my list would grow exponentially.

If I could make a list, of everything that's overrated (bands, books, cars, TV shows, movies, super models, etc.) and combine them into one general list of everything that's more overrated than everything else that's overrated, the Beatles would be the most overrated thing, of everything overrated thing, in the history of overration (<--- my new word).

LOL.

Actually though, I think albums like Sgt. Peppers, Let it Be and some of the very early stuff, fit the overrated moniker perfectly. Other albums have some songs that are simply incredible, but are still uneven. That said, I find the Abbey Road album to be downright amazing from beginning to end.

Couldn't have said it better myself. :)

heh.. every song on it I like?

umm.... then...

Beyond Twilight - For the Love and Art of the Making
Edge of Sanity - Crimson I and Crimson II.

That's it. But I wouldn't say that either is perfect...

As for a perfect album. Doesn't exist for me. Many albums that appear perfect at first or at 10th time... dry out with me after a couple of listens. Sometims due to uninteresting moments, sometimes due to stupid lyrics, sometimes due to poor production giving me some sound that annoys me, or a bad fade out at the end of a song, or some chorus repeated too many times.

There are albums I can think of that gets close.

Maybe its just because I rarely give any albums the concentration and repeated listens that some do. Even my favorites have rarely been spun more than 20 times. I just listen to so much of 'what's new.' And when I was younger I had little money for CDs. And the money I had was rarely spent on CDs. And the CDs I had were rarely listened for any reason other than studying. And almost all of of the CDs I owned up to age 20 or so were stolen. I didn't really get into music till a few years ago, and now I spend so much time 'catching up.'

In terms of perfect albums, I would try to pick works that aren't just a collection made up entirely of songs that I like, but also that fit togther in a flow over the duration of the disc.

Once I put Mindcrime on the list, it's hard to think of anything else that fits.

So did I. Maybe because our lists are long, people think we are just putting up a list of favorites rather than truly enjoying every moment of each album. It's too bad that my list isn't longer, considering the couple thousand discs I have. :Smug:

the Beatles would be the most overrated thing, of every overrated thing, in the history of overration (<--- my new word).

Zod, My long-lost Brother!!! I thought I was the one only!

Well, that's not quite what Yippee38 asked for. He asked for "...albums that don't put one note wrong. Every song is strong on its own..."

Once I put Mindcrime on the list, it's hard to think of anything else that fits.
Well, it's hard to put anything on the same list as Mindcrime. However, it's hard to think that in nearly 40 years of Metal there's only been one perfect disc.

Actually, our numbers are great. We meet monthly, in secret, out of fear of being attacked by renegade Wings fans, who might beat us with tambourines.

Hmm... upon reading that closer I see what you mean. I still think "perfect" is a ridiculously strong word though, severely limiting by its very definition.

Agreed, but certainly not too many.

The funniest of part of that classic "Zoddity" is that you said "Wings" rather than "The Beatles", which for some reason struck me as hilarious.

For the record, not a Wings fan at all (few really cool tracks like Band on the Run, Admiral Halsey and a select few others, but overall, not my cup of tea).

Exactly why I agreed with your sentiment that some of these lists seem to be "favorite album" lists.

BTW, just because I said "every song is strong on its own," does not mean that each song has to be evaluated individually. That's why I added, "and as a whole the album just works." Basically, what I was looking for was not just great albums, or albums on which I like or love every song, but albums on which I can find no fault. That fault could be poor production I suppose, but I was thinking more in terms of the music itself, not how it was packaged. If the production is so bad that it detracts from the music, then that CD should be off the list though.

For me, I could never put an album like AC-DC's Back In Black on this list. It's a great album, and I like every song on it. However, IMO, it is pretty unimaginative music. I guess it gets into the philosophical discussion of what is art and what makes art good or bad. For me, almost all AC-DC (even though I love it - 'specially Highway to Hell) is just too simple for me to call it perfect.

However, feel free to interpret my request however you wish. It's still interesting to see what people think.
