Pink Floyd - Welcome to the Machine (and 70s prog in general)

I don't think Pink Floyd are on Spotify, from what I can see there's various covers but no actual Floyd themselves.

Yup, this I determined as well - dammit...

Also Marcus, check out Piper At The Gates of Dawn, the album they did with Syd Barret. Listen to it with headphones. It's so unsettling, it's a pure fucking lolzfest.
From a producery standpoint it's great, because it was just after the birth of stereo, so the panning is really fucking stupid. Drums panned really close into your left ear and vocals way off in the distance in the right and everything else just floating around. Totally ridiculous. Great album too!

Hmm, I dunno dude, I don't think the Syd Barrett stuff would really appeal to me; as you know, I'm not a big fan of wacky noisy chaotic stuff, especially from the 60s! I'll give it a go, though

Marcus, "old", "bluesy"?!?? Where do you get these adjectives from relating to "Dark Side of the Moon??" lol. That is a masterpiece of an album and I suggest you give it a few thorough listen all the way through! Definitely in my top 5 of all time!

Yeah man, I was just talking about "Money" when I said old/bluesy, I'll indeed investigate! I'll check out King Crimson as well, thanks brahs!

Do it man! That album needs to be listened to as a whole, no breaks, all the way through to be appreciated in it's fullest. Don't get me wrong, all of the songs are amazing, but it really is an experience listening to the whole thing.

I think Meddle is an underrated album. "One of These Days" and "Echoes" are the shit. as well as Astronomy Domine off the first album. Shine on You Crazy Diamond might have too much blues in some parts for you, but its epic. Can't go wrong with Animals either...

fuck I'm about to get deep into another Floyd phase...

I'm discovering Pink Floyd lately, with mostly fresh ears. Sure, local classic rock radio has played a lot of their tracks, but somehow their music makes way more sense to me now, which I can blame Opeth for at least partially. I can honestly say that Pink Floyd has gone from being something of an annoyance to me most of my life (because of their often annoying, stoned fans) to becoming one of my favorite bands.

Just watched the making of "Dark Side Of The Moon" on YouTube the other day. Especially interesting to me was the part about "On the Run" with the Synthi AKS.

As far as ELP goes, you can't go wrong with (in order):

Brain Salad Surgery
Trilogy
Tarkus
Black Moon

..through headphones is a plus

Dude...I was tempted to like put parts of this in bold to emphasize, but I realized that every sentiment I agree 100% with :D

Check out 'meddle' the album or the video Live at Pompeii. Very good stuff, and half of Piper at the Gates of Dawn is pure genius and the rest is just great.

If all else fails for effects just kick the amp.

Animals - best album ever recorded.

FUCK YES! I've been a Floyd fanatic since my childhood and I love all their stuff, but Animals has a special place in my heart. Dogs is quite possibly one of the most interesting songs they have ever created. Plus its an adventure at 17 minutes long.

Aaaaaargh Marcus, immediately get the p.u.l.s.e dvd! It brings everything together on a perfect way. I love Pink Floyd!!! And "welcome to the machine" is a great song.

The "wish you were here" album is one of my fave records of all time! "shine on you crazy diamonds" is also a reason, why I love music generally! I don´t have english words to describe it.

I don't think that's your fault... I'm a native English speaker and I don't have English words to describe it either...

Good hell, watch this video on the mixing of 'On the Run' off Dark Side of the Moon. I imagine that process was a nightmare. I'll take some automation, please.

It starts about 4 minutes into the video.

dark side of the moon, wish you were here, meddle, division bell all amazing!!

+1

What he said!

'Coming back to Life' and 'Keep Talking' (with samples of Steven Hawking!) from division bell sound absolutely huge.

I'd also like to add that 'money' and to a slightly lesser extent 'have a cigar' aren't that up my street - neither is the early floyd stuff which is just fucking silly. It's sounds like the audio equivalent of Monty Python.

And comfortably numb is one of the best songs EVER written.

What about some 80s period Yes?

The albums '90125' and 'Big Generator' have some massively produced synth heavy 80s prog-pop.
