Pink Floyd - Welcome to the Machine (and 70s prog in general)

+1

What he said!

'Coming back to Life' and 'Keep Talking' (with samples of Steven Hawking!) from division bell sound absolutely huge.

I'd also like to add that 'money' and to a slightly lesser extent 'have a cigar' aren't that up my street - neither is the early floyd stuff which is just fucking silly. It's sounds like the audio equivalent of Monty Python.

And comfortably numb is one of the best songs EVER written.

What about some 80s period Yes?

The albums '90125' and 'Big Generator' have some massively produced synth heavy 80s prog-pop.

totally in agreeance with early barratt floyd stuff, just bizzare

i recall listening to division bell loads when it came out goin on car rides to the grand parents with the rents, and those two tunes you listed dan are amazing, and my other fav off that album is high hopes

thats why i love the dave gilmour live at the royal albert hall dvd soo much as there are some classic songs played and sounding perfect!!

I was really into Yes' 90125 album when I was a kid. I've been meaning to get back into them. I remember that album being an amazing, ambitious production for the 80s, with some really insane stuff going on. Apparently a lot of Yes fans hated it because they thought Yes went pop with "Owner Of A Lonely Heart," but I still fucking love that song, as well as a lot of early Yes, so whatever...

I could see why older Yes fans would possibly distance themselves from it, but like you i think Owner of a Lonely Heart is fucking great - and funnily enough it kinda sounds like Michael Jackson's bad (the bass line).

The production is very, very good though... also 'rhythm of love' on Big Generator is a great slice of epic ambient synth pop-rock.

Hell yeah, Owner of a Lonely Heart rules - I have a 3-disc "Best of Yes" type deal, but I definitely should start investigating the whole albums that some of my favorite tunes are from! So many though... :erk:

Yes- Close to the Edge, the whole album, first song to last, period. Blast it too, sounds good when it opens up.

I would also consider Fragile. The two albums Bill Bruford played on are the two worth listening too. They are aurally stimulating beyond many words and are tracked perfectly. True talent.

King Crimson- Frame by Frame and Three of a Perfect Pair are hella good songs. There are several more, like all of them :heh:, but those are personal fav's.

Three of a perfect pair, excellent tune, and i think the only listenable Crimson song for many people, 21st Century Schizoid Man is something advanced for its age.

What About Genesis, i personally like their "pop" sound more, and how to forget, Rush, i just fucking love´em!

FUCK YES! I've been a Floyd fanatic since my childhood and I love all their stuff.

Yea same here!

My dad had all the records and passed them on to me and I still believe there one of the greatest bands ever. I watched a behind the or making the album thing recently and I believe it was Roger who said " I wish i was not involved in recording or making the album, and could sit back and enjoy it like a normal listener for the first time." This made me feel bad for him... :loco:

Great band though and they just never get old to me.....

The VH1 "Classic Albums: Dark Side of the Moon" is an amazing DVD! If you are one who loves studio footage it's a really great glimpse into that album. They discuss lyrics, arrangements, and a ton of other stuff. Definitely worth checking out.
