Shit, I should start selling off my vinyl, havent been played in ... ? 19-20 years? I dont have much anymore anyhow. Back in the late 70's I started giving away most of my "hardrock".

Ken, you have most of mine only alot more. What you didnt name that I do also have of these bands is.
LZIII, IV, and Presence
Billy Joel - is Streetlife Serenade the first ?... I think it is, I have that & the other old ones up through Turnstyles or The Pretender which ever came later
others I kept cause they were "special" :loco:
Steeley Dan - Royal Scam
Billy Cobhams Spectrum
Crack the Sky - selftitled and Safety in Numbers, some other I never liked and forget the title.... lol
Atomic Rooster - Death Walks Behind You
Uriah Heep - Salisbury, Look at Yourself, Demons and Wizards
Still have Deep Purple - Machine Head
Jethro Tull - Songs from the Wood
Grand Funk - American Band... worst song on the album
some others I cant think of right now.
I also have some that are not mine but my good friends, no one uses turntables anymore so its like "you still have those albums?" "yep!" "Good, I never use my turntable anymore"..... lol.

Plastic ?
Heres one verse from a dangling... unsatisfied, rambling of mine... not that Im a pessimistic radical or anything.... from: Profits for Pain - a segment of - Childrens Nightmare

Generations yet to come but Mother Earth will be undone
Harvest timber from rotting trees, caustic air for them to breath
Mountains of plastic in the sky, poison waters… drink and die

Disposable society, master mammal of greed
Forgot how to survive by simply sowing seed
Ignorant intelligence, spreading the disease
Another million mouths to feed
No time to look back, so don’t look around
there’s a race to run in search of that Crown

We profit from this pain
Profits for Pain

...

^Our turntable is pretty new. Got it on amazon for just over $100. Stylish modern look, with quality vintage manual and analog functionality. It's not one of those shitty DJ ones.

I really want to get Yes - The Ladder and Big Generator. The latter is pretty easy to find, but I'm holding out for the used place here to have it again in stock so I can snag it for $2.50. I'll probably have to fork over $30+ for The Ladder. Ulver would also kick ass, but they're an expensive band too. You wouldn't believe what some 90s alternative vinyl costs- I've seen Third Eye Blind - Self Titled or Blue go for over $200 each. Would be nice to get some more Beatles and Rush too. Permanent Waves and Counterparts are on my hitlist.

For me, vinyl is a fun, engaging alternative to the digital revolution. It's the exact opposite- tangible music with a strong physical presence, and even just acquiring them is half the fun. Often you can find albums on vinyl cheaper than on CD too!

PS, I want that Uriah Heep - Demons & Wizards LP too

Vinyl on a quality turntable sounded great... as I recall but you have to remember that recording equipment is generally better today, there was good analog studios "back in the day" too. If I remember correctly Hendrix's Bold as Love was recorded on a 4track reel to reel and was considered a somewhat milestone in usage of a studio as a intregal tool of applying new ideas into a song. Didnt word that good, should have searched it out and quoted it.... lol. Bold as Love did have some damn good sound quality in its day.

which reminds me I have that origional on vinyl as well as
Al DiMeola - Casino
Return to Forever - Romantic Warrior
I'd have to dig them out, its only a stack about 18" or so, most all the ones I mentioned have been well played and well handled so the covers arent what they should be and some records have ruff spots.... mainly Immigrant Song...... lol

That was another nice thing about albums, though they had less info on them than most CD's today what was on them was easily readable and the cover art was huge. Sometimes they came with posters.

CD's are great, 8 tracks sucked and cassettes sucked, disposable garbage.... mountains of plastic in the sky

How does vinyl sound compared to CDs? I know you can't over compress the sound on vinyl like most CDs are today.

More dynamics, less volume. But hey, just turn the speakers up. That equals same volume, more dynamics. Most of those I listed are stereo too. Even the mono ones sound great. How can I say more dynamics when theoretically, the information capacity on a CD far exceeds that on a standard thickness LP? Because the modern digital studio overcompresses so much to make albums loud and punchy, that the dB spectrum is actually less than the 96dB average spread on vinyl. Put simply: yes, technically it IS better, but they don't utilize it correctly. But there's another factor: Digital media consists of samples. You can only have 1 or 0, and those samples increase in accurately representing the original sound as you increase the rate of sampling. This resolution can nearly mimic an analog waveform at very high sample rates. (Like DVDA or SACD) But not at CD resolution (16 bit, 44.1khz, or say a 192bit mp3) The final factor is the behavior of power amplifier stages. Analog amplifier circuits crank out odd harmonics, and digital circuits stress even ones. That has an effect on the tone coming out, obviously the on/off effects of tubes aren't really important in this kind of setup because once you've turned on the stereo, it stays on. No channel switching. However, because of all the other factors I've mentioned, I think vinyl is a strong and viable media for music, competitive with CDs even today. Tapes do suck, 8tracks were better but still suck.
5.1 digital sound is overrated.

Proul: U2 is an amazing band. There's not a band on that list I don't like.

CantoX: Elvis rules.
