You can check it out at http://www.sawstudio.com download the demo & videos of it in action.

Any serious questions can be answered at http://www.sawstudiouser.com/forums/index.php
You'll find the guys on the form are very helpful.

You've sparked my interest. I will continue to research. The on the fly stuff (like Ableton Live) interests me. I would like software that acts like a studio and less like software. Does that even make sense? :)

The TCPIP stuff is really cool. It seems like FX Teleport but much much more.

Thanks Oz!

in my experience Sound Forge/vegas was one of the fastest programs I've ever used, if only it had more power. i currently work with Nuendo. i hated Protools because slow interface and was limited to protools hardware which is overpriced. i used logic once at a college, most irritating program ever, but it has power, so much power i'd probably never use it. 5 clicks to do something that would be two clicks in protools, or one in Vegas.

also i've never used it, but SAW looks amazing for speed, i just dig the way the interface is layed out and it lacks some compatibility features.

I'm looking into digital performer, since it seems to have most things i'm looking for in a program. essentially I'm looking for something that combines vegas speed (or faster) and customization with nuendo's power.

I use ProTools HD at the studio for tracking and editing. I mix here at home using Nuendo. Overall, I feel a lot more comfortable with Nuendo, since I've been a Cubase user for a few years now. I can find my way around ProTools, but it just doesn't feel as homely.

I've been considering moving over to ProTools LE at home but I'm not a fan of the arbitrary virtual constraints that digidesign place on LE. I find it really stupid to deny someone auto delay comp, beat detective on multiple tracks etc.

Cubase SX for me. Then Nuendo if i have to. I use KRISTAL at home, which is pretty decent, considering its FREE!

BUT!!!!

Pro Tools HD all the way when i have the chance, use it at college with a powermac and control 24, dual screens, and it's by far the easiest and most powerful one.

I just got Samplitude. I've only dinked around with it for about an hour, but I really like it so far.

Ableton Live was stupid. Apparently you can't have tempo or time sig changes in a song. You're stuck with one. Will they address that in Live 6 coming out soon?

I've only messed with Sonar 4PE for an hour or two. I did NOT like that program at all.

pretty odd to not include Digital Performer in this poll. i mainly use Pro Tools HD now.. but i still love and use DP for certain things, as do quite a few of this forum's most prolific posters. Ableton and not DP? good grief.

Amazing thing about Samplitude nobody else has : you can apply realtime effects to objects, not just tracks. That's just the best thing ever and apparently nobody ripped that off yet.

I haven't gotten to that point yet in my Samplitude-education, but I assume you mean that you can apply one type of reverb to one clip, and another type of reverb to another clip all in the same track, for example?

If that's what you mean, both Tracktion and Tracktion 2 can do that, those little programs are what I cut my teeth on in DAW software. Hehe...

I'm running the SE version now that came free with Computer Music magazine, which made me think of it as a cheap entry-level program. But I must say, goddamn, this program FEELS just like it should be in the $400-$500 range! The only bad thing I've run into so far is the lack of a good manual plus that in this version I can only have 8 VSTi plugs per project.

Too bad Samplitude Pro is like $1,000...otherwise I'd upgrade to that.

The reason why pro tools is out of the question for me right now.

1. It is true that introductory cost of a pro tools hd system is $8000 right and thats minimum required cost?

2. Mac pro quad core is way out of my price range (and no I refuse to use a pc)

3. I am a home home/hobby studio and want what can be learned quickly and ended up first using cubase le and didn't want to change due to a new learning curve, so I went with sl3.

i just moved up to Nuendo 3 from Nuendo 2....i have used PTmp and love it but because of the limited track imput it allows you couldnt use it. my studio setup may be a little different from you guys because i track to a dedicated mtr and export to daw for editing and sometimes mixdown but if you really think about it PT and Nuendo/Cubase are not that different in the way you use it, price maybe, but the layout is the nearly the same (if that makes any sence).

If you understood what I mean then I didn't know Sonar 5 included it and that's cool and I hope all the others DAW will do cause it's a fantastic time saver (don't have to fight with automation) :)

Ah, the automation comment comfirms it - I did get what you mean! :D It's definitely a great feature, especially for a lazy muppet like me

A Samplitude question :

Can you only apply Samplitude's "realtime effects" or can you drop a VST effect on each object?

I'd like to compress each guitar clip in my tracks differently but I'd much rather use my C4 or Vintage Warmer than Samplitude's included comp.

you can put VST/DirectX effects on each track, object, Submix Buss, Aux Buss or Master Buss.

Effects can be real-time or applied.
