post pictures of your desk!

Absolutely...I prefer the display be placed off to the side for several reasons (easier for clients to see, less of a visual distraction, etc.). You do have to be careful about first order reflections coming back to the listening position. A convenient location for a display when editing is usually not the best location when listening critically, which is why I put it on wheels. It's more flexible and can be easily moved if needed. It's a bit more work to wire it up this way but well worth it. ;)

The bulk of my sessions are spent adjusting the sound at the desk. During the first 90% of most sessions, the computer is just for playback and record, so I'm spending most of my time in the listening position. Once the editing and assembly stage begins, I'm usually switching back and forth between being in the listening position for QC and in front of the display for easier editing.

You're welcome to pop in anytime Shadow Walker, next time you find yourself in New York! :)

Makes perfect sense. I wish it were an option for me but editing and mixing require so much time in front of the display, at least for those of us who depend entirely on plugins. I imagine getting a 32" TV and placing it further away would be a good compromise.

And thanks for the invitation :headbang: If I ever get the chance to visit the States that would be my main priority. I'd love to hear music the way it's intended to be heard.

This is my shitty roommmmmm

It looks really good in person, the background of the poster almost exactly matches the wall paint.

But on the flip-side it can be terrifying sometimes waking up suddenly to eddie ripping through my wall

Fuck yeah, I dig all of your maiden posters :headbang:

Interesting to see all the different set-ups out there. Really digging the professionally done rooms too.

I'd share but my room looks like a stoner den at the moment. Functionality is great (size considered), but aesthetics not so much.

just got those monitor stands..still tryin to figure out how to set everything up now!

Sweet dude, but it's definitely better to have your monitors standing upright, since with horizontal mounting there's more of a potential for phase smearing when moving your head from side-to-side (though I guess some monitors, like the NS10m's, K&H O300's, etc. are designed for horizontal mounting, I'd say the KRK's are not) Diggin' the two different Wal-Mart freestanding-with-gooseneck lamps :headbang::D

Thanks for the advice man! (I heard the 1in tweeter is supposed to be ear level, and with the stands on its lowest position and the krks standing upright, they sit above my ear a good bit...do you still think it would be better than sideways?)

and they are from target jerk!!

Ah, Target, well that's ok then :D And yeah, it's best to have the tweeter at ear level, so you'd have to invest in some downward-firing Mopads (that's actually how my monitors are set up, except with Recoil Stabilizers instead of MoPads)

Tweeter at ear level is generally considered 'correct', but I tend to prefer my ears being at the midway point between the tweeter and cone. This way you get a bit of up/down movement with low/high balance, and that extra spatial imaging tends to help my association with how many highs and lows are in the mix. With the ears 'on' the tweeter, on the Opals at least, it sounds like the mix is coming from below and I don't dig it.
