Power fest review

I also missed out on meeting PowerMetalNerd, but from the sounds of it we were in the same place on several occasions and just didn't know it. Oh the irony.

There were some very attractive females there this year.

Yeah, I think I saw you talking to Rachel after Testament.
Sorry I didn't come up and say Hi.
I think that's when security was herding everyone the fuck out the door...in the most polite manner.

I still am very mad that no one would introduce me to Punkin77!!!

WOW!! Thanks so much! Those that were in the back (sponsors) knew who I was. My name is Laura, I did the design/layout for the program and I helped with the M&G. I am VERY short, have shoulder-length curly hair.

Anyone know who I am yet??

Maybe I'll get to meet you next year so I can tell you to fuck the hell off and kiss my ass. :heh:

are you a metal umpa loompa?

I am pissed I wanted to get a picture with you, two arch foes together. No one would tell me who you were.....one day I guees.

Hey, I think I stood next to you or one over from you a few times on the balcony!

I don't think I met PowerMetalNerd, though :-( ... the only other one of the ladies I met (who I didn't know already) was Jen who works with Sacred Dawn.

Unfortunately, due to it being so crowded, I never got a chance to run into Pate, Veggie, Ken (metalprof), Rob (I saw you from a distance, but didn't want to bother you as I know you were busy), DEADHEART (John - also, saw you as you were heading towards the soundboard, and didn't want to bother you), and many others I am sure I am forgetting

damn it man! You shoulda stopped me. I looked for you Thursday and asked Bob were you where. When he told me what was going on I didn't think you would make it out. Sorry to hear about the family stuff.

Thanks!!! Yeah, well, I think I saw you heading to the board during IE's set. I figured you were busy. Hopefully sometime soon!

That's cool. It wasn't alot of fun being behind the board when the power went down during the IE set. Nothing like having 1300 people all turn and look at you like they want you to die! I thought we were going to get lynched!!! Damn those circuit breakers!!!

HA! Real nice.

No one told you who I was more than likely because they didn't know.

One day, we shall meet.... that would be one hell of a pic.

Oompa loompa do-ba-dee-doo.....Di-a-bol-ik is a cunt, how about you? :heh: :p Muahaha! ;)

The crowd was into them but the moron end of the spectrum...lets call them the Ozzfest types....were confused by the folkish parts of thier songs. Saw the teeny boppers dancing in the pit that was mentioned in another review.

I was amazed at how much time you spent looking at the crowd behind you, vs. how much you actually watched the band. Very odd!

- metalcore

You know, the definition of "metalcore" isn't simply "any music that I don't like". It actually refers to a specific style of music, believe it or not! By my count, only one metalcore band played the whole weekend, and they played for 30 minutes early on Friday so you didn't even see them!

I know exactly who you are..I was standing right by you both nights for Iced Earth and Testament...I kind of made it pretty obvious who I was the second night but I stayed upstairs to watch the bands. I did get to run into and hang out with a few of you guys though that I don't hang with on a regular basis. Next time maybe I'll be a little more social :headbang:

Jason - I have your Heaven & Hell/Megadeth Cd..I got copies of both the Chicago and Detroit shows for you. I had video of the Megadeth set from Detroit but for some damn reason it's not playing now so I have to get another copy of that.

Jeebus, I better write something now before I get any further behind. It's gonna take me forever to get caught up on everything from this weekend.

Paganfest - Damn was the turnout fantastic for this. I will say that I never gave this genre a fair listen until this tour was announced. Eleveitie quickly became a favorite of mine. All of the bands impressed me immensely.

Friday - I know there a lot of opinions about the lineup. I personally felt awful for the "metalcore" bands as they have been dubbed. I was in the VIP section of the balcony trying to take pictures of Arise and Ruin and I honestly hadn't seen that many deadpan facial expressions in a while. It wasn't that that bothered me. It was the very loud jeers and negative gestures in between songs. I heard and saw everything from up there. Damn. You know what though? Those guys gave 110% anyway. We know what happened with some of the other bands as well. I'm not saying that I've never made a face or a comment at a show, but never that blatant and within view of the band. It takes a lot of balls to get up there and play you know.

It was damn amazing to see Iced Earth again with Barlow. The highlight for me was hearing "Melancholy" as that is one of my favorite IE tunes.

Saturday - This was an all around good night for me. I couldn't have been happier getting to take pics and rawk out in the front for Suidakra and Darkane. Testament blew me the hell away. The unreal energy that band had and the crowd interaction was freaking priceless. Skolnick is a maniac on the axe and it was great to see Chuck Billy again.

Random stuff:

-It was great to finally meet The Invisible Guest (Britt), Mr. Kaschei (Pat) --though briefly! and bOOB (Bob)! I hope I'm not forgetting any new peeps. Most of you I know!

-It was also very cool to formally introduce myself to a few folks that I see all the time but never made direct contact with...namely Al and Brian from Ion Vein, Aaron from Twelfth Gate and Lance King. Lance, I am tickled that you loved the Double Chocolate Stout! :kickass:

-Thanks to anyone that made to any of my after-parties. It was even bigger than last year! And for those that were under age this year, no worries, we'll do it next year! You know who you are. :)

-Amber - No worries...I'm a professional and we had a pretty swift clean up at the end of it all! I was guilty of throwing a few of those beans myself. ;-)

- I had half a mind to take a picture of that awful line for the men's room every time I passed it! I thought that would be pushing it though. As already mentioned, it pays to be a female metal fan.

A huge thanks to CRJ for putting on yet another wonderful fest. You guys are really top notch. From the lineup to bending over backwards on Saturday to get me in the photo pit where I belonged! I am forever grateful for being allowed to be a part of it.

There's a myriad of other things, but damn I haven't even unpacked my bags yet!

Paganfest was superb.
Didn't bother showing up for Fridays bands except Iced Earth who were very good aside from the retarded fucking setlist.
Testament was AMAZING.

Now Rob, I had the time of my life and I appreciate all the work you put into this. But Twelfth Gate were fucking HORRIBLE. Please ditch that new singer ASAP.

In my case i wanted to see you guys, but the music came first. so i hung out in the pit not that far away from veggie. when it came to meeting the board members, I think i only met Machine of Hate for a little bit, Veggie, Pate and i think 1 other.

Arise and Ruin: don't need to go there, didn't like em.

Ion Vein: Great show. Your lead singer is talented, yet over the top at times. I could see it was hard for Chris and Gate to keep from laughing. I think it left us confused, should we laugh with you, or absorb the music's intensity.
Keep your frontman, great voice

Epicurean: heard good things, badass rhythm, while i think the singer had an off night, he had a good personality, the dragons crack was priceless.

A life once lost: I didn't like them but i wasn't a heckler, at least until the lead singer decided to shoot his mouth off. I would have had a lot of respect for the band if they tried to finish out. If there were any ppl who liked them were there (which i assume there were) they should just go back to the 'music' for them. Otherwise your just aggravating another IE fan.

"metal is what brings us together, were a family"

your adopted....

Iced Earth: my first time seeing them, a very memorable moment in my life. The sound problems were a downer but that didn't stop Barlow from still being audible from where i was. not to mention being in something as huge as this was a new level of euphoria.

Saturday
Sacred Dawn: Nice pick up guys, should have been on that list from the start.

Twelfth Gate: meh, but 20 times more tolerable to me than others......
killed a little bit of the momentum SD brought

SuidAkra: aside from guitar problems, great show, got the crowd into a frenzy early.

Darkane: excellent stage presence. got alotof us pumped.

Testament: You remember my euphoria reference? right off the fucking scale. Though i never had the chance to yell Into the Pit into the mic, i was damn close. Wild night
I can brag about being one of the Testament Chanting leaders.

side notes: I was the dude singing Enemy of God when it was on the PA.
and friday was the first time ive ever seen a moshpit form from a stereo broadcast ANGLE OF DEATH!

ah coolness, I DID meet you then! I'm boB... not the exciting Bob, who everyone wants to kick in the face until they meet him, but, rather, the much more boring boB. :)

Jeebus, I better write something now before I get any further behind. It's gonna take me forever to get caught up on everything from this weekend.

Same here... I'm dreading sitting down to do my write-up of Powerfest, because I know I'll be sitting there typing for like three hours.

Actually, this would be a great promotional tool for CR&J to use when they start asking for sponsorships next time around. :)
