Hmm, before doing that, have you updated the Gigabyte mobo's BIOS to the latest version? Anyway, if it works better with the Asus, sell that Gigabyte.

It may also be that you are in a clean install with the Asus. Have you tried a clean install with the Giga? There could be drivers or software fucking up and produce those latency spikes.
 
Really sorry to bump such an old thread but I just discovered after hours of trying to fix the problem that if you set your Power Plan to high performance (rather than the default one) the DPC latency is gone. I had two installations of Windows 7 on the one computer - one for DAW, one for home and the DAW had no problems. In the DAW installation I had set the Power Plan to High Performance and I had to read this on another forum to remember.

If anybody else has this problem, try Power Settings.
 
Another tip from me: Open the device manager and click view --> resources by type and check if any devices share the IRQ with your firewire card. Disable competing device if possible --> profit!
