Pronunciaton: Vox = Vocks or Vokes?

Why would you say it out loud anyway? It's not like it's a lot faster?
And correct me if I'm wrong but since when do you pronounce an abbreviation different than what the grammar says, just because it's full name Is pronounced in a different way? I think it is only logical to pronounce it like the amp manufacturer VOX.

Then again I'm german so...

vocks. It's latin and the agreed pronunciation is with a short o. It's not a simple shortening of vocals.
