Pumped to see Fates Warning

Emerald Sword,

Did you really not like "A Pleasant Shade Of Gray?" I know it doesn't exactly have the shredding solos of previous albums, but there are plenty of great proggy moments, and Ray Alder sounds absolutely astonishing on it. Though I enjoy the last two albums, I can understand why others are turned off by them.

Stay metal. Never rust.

Yes, I seriously hate APSoG. I LOVE "Awaken the Guardian" and "No Exit"! So, I guess that explains my FATES WARNING style preference. Also, I'm not really a prog guy. I didn't grow up listening to prog and find it massively boring for the most part. I like some, but most I avoid like the plague. I'll take AC/DC over DREAM THEATER any day of the week. Though, I do like DT somewhat.

I didn't appreciate prog myself back in the day (70s). Bands like Yes, Genesis, etc. for the most part didn't do it for me. The technical part really appealed to me but the crunch & kick didn't exist. Rush came close though so I was definitely a fan of theirs. Bands like AC/DC and the like were boring me shitless with their standard 4/4 timing and endlessly repetitive rhythms. All songs sound the same to me. I wanted something that had the technical edge plus kicked my ass. Along came Fates (Alder era) & Queensryche...almost exactly what I was looking for. So I was happy for a minute. Then DT hit the scene...with exactly what I craved. The prog metal flood followed after DT opened the gates. I've been a happy camper ever since.

Yeah, my loyalties and allegiances lie on the power side of things, for sure. I got your back, bro!:kickass::cool:

Really? This is by far my favorite PP line-up. As far as Fates go, I'm curious to see how Ray handles the old material. I love his work with Fates, as well as his work with Redemption. That said, has voice has changed over the years. I'm curious to see how he handles all the high notes that permeates Fates' glory years.

I would actually like to see Glenn pull off bringing John Arch out on stage for this show. If any of you have heard his solo CD with Portnoy, he doesn't seem to have lost a thing as far as his tone and upper register is concerned. I would personally love to hear something from "Awaken the Guardian" and/or especially "Spectre Within"!

I saw them play "A Pleasant Shade Of Gray" start to finish on that tour and it was nothing short of EPIC...

One of my favorite FW albums along with Spectre Within, ATG and Perfect Symmetry...

I haven't seen Fates live for over 15 years -- can't wait!

The first 3 albums with Alder are my favorite...but I wouldn't say no to a few classic Arch-era tunes.

Just so you know, not sure if it is going to come to fruition, but Howard who runs Three Rivers Prog was trying to get Mark Zonder to do a drum clinic between sets at 3RP. Saw him at Rosfest a few weeks ago.
Looks like I'm going to miss that one again this year (Progressive Nation is playing the same weekend near my home). Would've been nice to see King's X headlining before a large crowd that actually knows their music.

too bad Mark Zonder isn't with FW anymore... who's gonna be drumming? Jarzombek? NDV? someone else?

What is Zonder doing these days? Hopefully something in addition to Slaviour
