I thought most people here agreed that it was black metal (myself included since it's about satan and all of that) but who gives a fuck about genre definitions anyway (except when someone calls something black metal and it is not)

also to y'all who's ordered or downloaded this album because you're curious: i think this is the weakest tiamat album (tiamat ceased to exist in 1998) but if you wanna get it it's cool, you should really not judge tiamat as a band based on sumerian cry though.

it is an album to get if you're interested in obscure early 90's bm but it is not really an album to get if you're interested in what makes tiamat so unique and powerful

i would recommend the astral sleep, clouds, or wildhoney as a first album

I just like to argue on the internet.

But I do think of Sumerian Cry as a black metal album... and Wildhoney sucks dick. So does Clouds. Astral Sleep is good. Sumerian Cry is their achievement.

But I'm sick of most metal and listen to nothing but jam bands and frank zappa, so what do I know?
