Reamping guys: I need your help!

Eddy, when I present the reamps to the band, I will do so in a session I've prepared, with the raw files inserted at the same perceptible volume. So don't worry about the mixes people are posting up. The idea is to collect the raw files and go from there.

I'd be very pleased if you found the time to do some reamps here. I've found a set so far that are very promising, but I will likely show the band on the weekend so there is still room for more entries!

@Xes: It's been a few days since I listened but I remember my impression being that it just didn't fit the sound of the band in my mind. There were others that just hit the mark I was after a bit closer. I am thankful you submitted them though. With so many entries it's more like a scatter-shot, one is bound to hit the mark closer than others.

I have heard some samples here that are more compressed/limited than a master should be. What's the point of it?
Just to sound better because it's louder? That defeats the whole purpose of this thread.

I agree with Ed...I wrote the same observation the last week.
I think we have to post only the stereo guitars here (normalized at the same level for everybody) so Ermz can paste it on his session and judge the tracks.

You can post whatever clips you want here on the thread, as long as you send me the raw files to include in the session later. I'll be clear. The only judgement that's made on the clips posted here is on the general tonality and whether it fits enough to be included in my 'short-list' so to speak. After that, I will take raw files from all the short list nominees, prepare a session, show the band, talk it over and inform everyone who I'd like to roll with and be appreciative of everyone's time and effort to go through the hassle of doing this.

As far as the short list goes, I make every effort to surf the volume pot in order to audition them at the same levels. Some just inherently sound better to me, and it's easy to tell which - mastering or not.

I love how n4 cuts through, although it has something a bit odd going on on the very highs, but noticeable just on the only-guitar parts... probably a narrow cut on a certain frequency will solve the issue.
In the full mix is definitely tolerable tho...

Curious to hear the setup on that one...

I'm listening on cheap 2.1 computer speakers, so, you know, grain of salt and all that...

I like #2 during the faster first half but prefer #1 for the slower second half. #3 sounds odd in a digital way in the EQ range where the guitar and bass meet, and #4 sounds hollow, like it's all texture and no pitch.

As promised here are some reampings made with a SLO100, a Custom Audio OD100SE+ and a Diezel Herbert.
I also used 2 different cabinets, a Mesa Oversized and a Bogner Uberkab (used the V30)
I didn't have musc time so I only used 1 SM57 for it, usually I use 2 mikes to blend, but I didn't have much time, so it was like put the sm57 where I usually put it, tune quickly each amp, and away we go.
It could be better, but since I didn't have much time it was this or nothing

I used a OD820 and some slight Eq on the mixdown, no compression or limiting on the guitar tracks or on the bounce.

I used these 3 amps because they're not very usual in here so it would be interesting for you guys to listen to them. Probably the 5150 and Dual Rectifier could have done a better job, but this way it's more interesting.

I passed the DIs through each amp through each cabinet, giving me several possibilities for mixdown.

Here are the mp3s with the following format:

Ok guys I can finally announce that #4 has been the winner. The guitarists were torn between 3 and 4, but I think my opinion swayed it.

Thank you all for the great reamps. I couldn't have hoped for a better way for this thread to have gone. Very productive, lots of options and lots of listening! I hope in the future I can work with some of you others in getting tones for different projects. Cheers!

Nice choice ahah ;)
I think it actually fits the whole mix and riffing better than the other (all pretty good) tones...

Thanks for the details!

Hey Ermz, thank you and the band putting this up.

Next time we could try to make whole mix to sound like some target record. I could handle the guitars then, but someone else should do the drums etc. Here are some examples, there's always a tiny clip from the original recording included.

Greets, Mikko

EDIT: My server give me only 100MB at time so I have constantly to remove/update links.

I´m recording soon and I have a doubt I didnt find on the search...Do you use reamp box to track and reamp bass or is it enough with the sansamp BDDI and a good pre?¿

edit: well, it seems some of you uses a Reamp box. nevermind
