Recabinet 3 - Out Now

Thanks a lot, Shane You `ve been very helpful , and I totally understand this "it's a matter of trade secrecy", about the CPU power I actually didin`t realize before but I was using version 3.0.0 so I will follow your tip and move to 3.0.1 still my current Pc is quiet a piece of crap so I don`t expect much... LOL.

Cheers Man.

I thought this was pretty cool as it seemingly caught my attention whilst checking facebook.

So after toying around with the 3.0.1. which is MORE usable than 3.0.0. (still got a cracking every now and than) I find the impulses not just too dark but also kinda boxy. there are two patches (Ola Englund - Feared combo, Ola Englund - Hardcore combo) that are able to compensate with this boxyness. This is why I had an idea for the next version:
@Shane: Could implement a bright switch which does compensate for the rather dark tone. I think it would enough too compare your impulses with brighter ones around this forum and then generate an eq-curve to that bright switch. This way you wouldn't mess up your product but you really could help those people, who are complaining about the dark and boxy sound. I know everyone could eq the impulses for his own, but you really could make this procedure more simple.

We've identified a crackling bug in Recabinet 3.0.1 on some Mac configurations, and we've just posted the Recabinet 3.0.2 update tonight to fix this:

http://www.recabi.net/recabinet-3/download-demo/

This is a Mac-only update, as the bug only affected the Mac in Recabinet 3.0.1.

hoehlentroll - you're the only person I'm aware of who is finding Recabinet 3 to be dark (or boxy, for that matter.) Have you tried blending in the 545 mic or using the EQ to adjust things to taste? What is your setup? Clips? Presets? I'm here to help. :)

ORLY? From this thread and the Ola's presets thread

Tried the demo. It sounds too dark even on axis to my ears, I need to boost the hi's 5-7db. But it is still great, I have a fealing that there are some back of the cab mics blended to get that roar. And I have some issues with the demo. It does not respond to any changes some times. I click to change cab or mic or any other value and nothing happens, it changes after repeating the action 3-5 times )) And I am still curious about RTAS from windows..

It makes everything way easier and gives you a cool interface to look at! :)

The way I used to use Recabinet was to track a guitar and then duplicate that track and have Voxengo Boogex with different impulses on each track to try to achieve that double mic kind of sound. It was always a hassle to raise the volume of one or the other and get 2 sounds that fit well because I had to go between tracks. Now I can just have the 1 track and do it all inside the interface because there are output controls for each cabinet and the comparison happens much faster.

I also like how the sound is a little darker with more of a roar and there is some nice fizz on the top. It should sit better in the mix than some of the older Recabinet impulses that I've been using.

Nice GUI, nice blah blah, but I feel it sounds too thin and flat. I always need to use the 121 mic to get some low end. In mid and far positions I can't listen to the natural room reverb or damping or whatever you want to name it.
I think Catharsis Impulses have better low end, and better general response using a single sm57.
I hoped better improvements instead of the classic way of making impulses + a nice eater of resources GUI, sorry man.

that's a matter of taste, but to me they do. you have to add a fair amount of highs though

Shane, please dont take what I am about to say negatively as I am a Recabinet 2 owner and love the plugin....

Knowing the types of tones Ola normally gets something just sounds dull and lifeless about the plug-in. Not sure what it is but there is this really harsh digitalness to them that I have never heard out of Ola's stuff before, not even the Axe FX.

There just seems to be this overall EQ scoop on the cabs that doesnt allow the high end to sing like a real cab does. I cant quite place it.

No offense meant, maybe you were just filtering it out (no pun intended), if you know what I mean.

PS: I just got a major deja vu from this post.

LOL, never mind...

It's been a while... and I didn't take the time to re-read the thread. There's plenty of bright sounds available, guys, perhaps I can post some presets for you all to try...

that's not the problem shane. with the eqiung you added to the vst, a bright sound is easily within reach. It seems you are making impulses that doesn't fit common taste exactly. Maybe you do impulses with bright preamp settings in mind. My suggestion was barely meant as a heads up - nothing more nothing less. It's not that I didn't get great results with your vst!

I wouldn't agree to that though, it's a matter of equing imho

Did you try the 545 or the U87 mics? Those will add a lot of top end to the sound. It's just kind of ironic because on this forum, the cycle has gone like this:

  1. Recabinet 1.0 - some users complained it was too dark
  2. Recabinet 2.0 - some users complained it was too bright
  3. Recabinet 3.0 - now it's apparently "too dark" again
We put a lot of R&D into each version but with Recabinet 3, over 1000x the data was collected and analyzed than both previous versions combined, not just scientifically but also in terms of testing the product with guitarists and producers with their music. The focus was to go for the most balanced, versatile, flexible tonal palette yet, and I believe we nailed it.

One of the things we're working on right now is putting together more presets for download on our website, so perhaps for some of you having a few more starting points will be helpful. We've also had some killer metal guitarists sign on to design signature presets, names you guys will recognize. More soon...

Just purchased after trying the demo yesterday. love it. Do I have to download the full program again, or is the full version the same as the demo. ( apart from the fact that I'll have added my serial number )

As per the manual, just import your keyfile into the plugin and restart your recording software. The plugin will be authorized at that point, so the demo restrictions (nag screen, gaps of silence) will disappear.

Thanks!
