Recent Disappointments

Your head must be spinning. I assume it was a surprise. Jeebus

Yeah, it still hasn't sunk in yet, should take a few days I suppose. Yes, it was a terrible surprise. I just had a very good review two weeks ago on my one year anniversary - but that manager had no input whatsoever on what went down yesterday (4 other people let go as well).

The head of the southeast region came down, took me into an office, basically said "Due to budget reasons, you're being let go. Visit HR, then go home and come back and get your things later." It's an 80 mile round trip so I refused and gathered my stuff up then and there while they watched me like a hawk the whole time.

"Oh yeah, and happy holidays".

If it's of any consequence, the job market is [supposedly] great these days. You never know, you might find something else pretty soon and it might even be a better job.

I have no idea whatsoever what I'm going to do or where I'm going to go yet.

Almost exactly what happened to me 2 days ago. They said they "might" be able to pick me back up in January but I'm not holding my breath. What's worse is the possibility that this might happen to me was discussed 2 months ago, so I started planning for this possibility. I was told the company was "in the clear" about 3 weeks ago, so I abandoned the back up plans.

When I was let go from my previous job 4 years ago due to budget cuts, I sat at my cubicle cleaning out my desk while the rest of the team when to a company held pizza party. Seriously, wtf?!?!

Yea I shouldn't say worse, more like annoying since I thought I was in the clear and (stupidly) gave up the back up plans.
And to me, this really was a disappointment since I really enjoyed the job and had invested a good deal of personal time towards future plans and projects.

What an amazing life we're forced to live in. We're obliged to work, we hate to work, and yet when we lose our jobs it's a shock to the system. And we do it all for the US dollar which is currently weaker than used Canadian toilet paper.

Please don't tell me they actually said that. :erk:

It was actually something like - "go and spend some quality holiday time with your family to help during this difficult time".

My family lives 1,500 miles away and we had already ruled out the possiblity of being able to see each other at all this holiday season. :erk:

I'm escaping to Key West for a couple days at a flea bag hotel over Thanksgiving.

This is worse than the happy holiday tag line. You just took away my source of income, and now you have the gall to give me suggestions on what I should do during my impromptu vacation?

When I was laid off my supervisor actually weeped for being in put in such a position. I eventually got my job back four months afterwards.
