Recomend bands! (Kata-sounding or not)

Two more bands I can deeply recommend:

1349 and Deathspell Omega!

1349 is basically kick ass rocking black metal, whereas Deathspell Omega is arty, intellectual, but unbelieveably sinister and atmospheric bm.

Both are highly recommended.

Found new (for me) unfamous(here, in St.Petersburg) band BLOC PARTY - it has some similarities with KATATONIA - sometimes style of playing guitars, sometimes voice remind me of KATATONIA. But they use no distortion, just different flangers, choruses etc, i mean, they sound very light. However, it is sad music=) In fact, i think what they play is a branch of brit-pop, but it is very good music. i recommend it to anyone=)

Hey all
Well I haven't actually checked alot of the bands mentionned in this thread, but I just have to say that Coy is my favourite revelation until now. Amazing vocals, atmosphere and lyrics..
I'd like to recommend some bands (hopefully they haven't been cited already)

Leaves' Eyes
Dreamflight
Antimatter
Breaklose
Flowing Tears

Cheers, :)

Hello.:zombie:

Most of the bands that I would recommend have already been mentioned.
GUITARO hasn't, if I'm not mistaken. I only have "Futura Black", but that one is fantastic. It comes pretty close to what I consider "shoegazer metal" - sort of like Slowdive with crushing guitars. Check the official homepage: http://www.guitaro.ca ... I think there's a couple of songs that can be downloaded. GUITARO rules.

If you want more shoegazer metal, check out COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS from Japan

I also recommend "Star Is Just A Sun" by THE WHITE BIRCH. Nice and mellow and extremely good.

Otherwise, you might wanna check out:

http://www.myspace.com/ddrband (rock/pop from Nuuk, Greenland)

http://www.escapetheday.tk (My band. True Norwegian Shoegazer Metal from Berlin, Germany)

You might want to check out a Finnish metal band called Serenity's End. The website address is http://www.serenitysend.com They have recently released a new record from which someone has said it sounds a bit Katatonia:ish :D I don't totally agree on that. I think they have a quite unique sound, but I guess you have to hear it for yourself...:headbang:

I know that most of the guys in Katatonia have shit-tons of respect for Jeff Buckly as well....he is an incredibly emotional singer....one of the best if not the best in his Genre.....

For something a little off kilter (is that really a word?) maybe try Murder by Death or The Notwist......

Agents of Oblivion (Daxx Riggs from Acid Bath)
Deadboy and the elephant men (also Dax from Acid bath)
Acid Bath(suprisingly has Dax in it....he is fekkin awesome....)
Aeon Spoke (the guys from Cynic)- very mellow....Paul Masvidal wrote it while working as a music therapist for people who were dying....
Arab Strap.....very weird...and yet not so weird....I would recommend the song-Girls Of Summer-
God Speed You Black Emperor--Mellow and trance inducing?
Has anyone mentioned Kent yet? a little poppy...but still real good
Rain Paint- I just bought one of their CDs and it is pretty good in alot of ways....kind of like katatonia I guess...
Sigur Ros--they are just awesome....and a new CD coming out in a couple days
Subterranean Masquerade---Tomer formerly from The End records with Jake, and then Paul from Novembers doom.....violins....so good
Will Oldham--Jonas is big into this guy....Katatonia covers a song by him...he has many names...google him...
Again I want to say Gary Jules.....because he is one of my favorites....

I dont know how many of these sound like Katatonia...but these are all bands I like...

you totally just listed all the bands I was going to...
good choices!

I am new into Novembre...recently got their 2 albums(classica & wish I could dream it again)...I saw few people mentioned it before but I must confirm again...F***** great band...for me very similar to katatonia, but it lacks in one thing: bad clean vocals...almost like I'm listening castrated cat...other than that...despair and sadness at maximum.

Cheers
