Damnit, I wanted to argue about Ayreon some more... :Smug:

I did want to add to that a little on the other thread since I listened to "The Human Equation" again yesterday.

Taking into consideration what the album is about, I really don't find the lyrics "cheesy". I started wondering why the difference in opinion...

I don't know for sure, but guessing I may be a bit older than some or most here. Having been a teen through the '80s metal revolution, I lived through the biggest, fastest moving "Cheese" factory in history. Not that all of it was, but a lot...and I even liked some. Hell, I was a kid after all...and I guess I have a hard time thinking those lyrics are cheesy by comparison.

Oh well, not trying convert anyone...you guys know your music...just my 2 cents anyway...

"Do you remember that time, when we were shwoing off our brand new flashy bikes, you looked so fine, Untill you fell over and then started to cry"

Come on I love Ayreon but, ^ those lyrics are just so cheesy a 3 year old could have wrote them

I still say it has to be taken in context, in a real life situation like that...reminiscing about old times with friends and your wife possibly could be a bit sappy. A few of those songs when they did that were done more in the opera vein and do come across that way...and also aren't really my favorites. But they are part of the story and if you write a story about all human emotions, with a love triangle and so on...you'll end up with some lovey, sappy, and maybe a bit cheesy lyrics.

Overall I still think it was a decent writing job, with the vocalists drama bringing it to a higher status. I think that the music for the most part is excellent, so sometimes that takes precedence anyway.

i didnt think either were very good at all. and the term "prog" should be used very loosely with them as well.

I totally agree. Orphaned Land is really crappy not to mention overrated. Disillusion totally owns them though I don't care much for them either.

listened...

sorry dude but imo:
Orphaned Land >>>>> Disillusion

where Orphaned Land had complex sound and colorful tones, Disillusion sounded flat.
where Orphaned Land had inspired lyrics in several languages (and well-sung in each), Disillusion seriously lacked.
where Orphaned Land was diverse from track to track, Disillusion wasn't.

they're supposed to be better? i don't know if all the samples on their page are a good representation, but if they are, i beg to differ with your opinion :tickled:
